<<Iran Executed 63 Prisoners in Just Two Weeks
The Islamic Republic's judiciary executed at least 63 prisoners over the
past fortnight, a human rights organization reported.
In a report released on Thursday, Iran Human Rights Organization
disclosed that the Islamic Republic executed one person approximately
every five hours during the past two weeks. According to the
organization's findings, 63 prisoners were executed in Iranian prisons.
The report also reveals that from the beginning of this year until the
end of April, 171 individuals were executed across various prisons in
Iran. Mahmoud Amiri-Moghadam, director of the Iran Human Rights
Organization, emphasized the alarming frequency of executions, stating,
<In the last two weeks, the Islamic Republic executed one person every
five hours without incurring any cost.> Amiri-Moghadam underscored the
concerning lack of international response, warning that the absence of
reaction could embolden further executions. He said, <Nations committed
to human rights, with diplomatic ties to the Islamic Republic, must
speak out against this surge in executions in Iran.> According to
statistics compiled by the human rights organization, April witnessed 71
executions across 24 different prisons in Iran, with 63 occurring within
the final two weeks of the month. Among the 71 executed prisoners, 44
had been convicted on charges linked to drugs, 26 for <intentional
murder,> and one for <rape.> The victims included at least 16 Baluch
citizens, six Afghan citizens, and three women. According to a report by
Amnesty International, Iran has reached its highest level of death
sentence execution in the last eight years, with the judiciary of the
Islamic Republic executing 853 people in 2023 alone. The report
indicates that 481 executions, more than half of the total, were related
to drug crimes. This marks an 89 percent rise in death penalties for
drug-related offenses compared to 2022, when 255 people were executed.
The latest numbers also show a staggering 264 percent increase compared
to 2021, when 132 individuals faced execution on similar charges.>>

<<Young Protester Gets 10-Day Leave From Prison
Mohammad Boroghani, a young imprisoned protester, has been granted ten
days' leave from Ghezalhesar prison, where he is serving a five-year
sentence. Boroghani, arrested in Pakdasht during the 2022 protests,
faced initial sentencing of death for <waging war against God> by Branch
15 of the Tehran Revolution Court. However, following an appeal, this
verdict was revised to five years in prison and ten years of exile. The
revised sentence, issued amid procedural concerns, garnered media
attention after the case was retried and referred back to the same
branch. Like other protesters detained during the nationwide
demonstrations, Boroghani lacked legal representation during his trial.
Information obtained by IranWire suggests that his court-appointed
lawyer acted more as an interrogator than a defense advocate during the
proceedings.>>

NCRI - Womens committee - 3 may 2024 - in Women's News
<<Sorayya Mohammadi, a young woman hanged in Qezel-Hesar prison in Karaj
At dawn on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, a young woman by the name of
Sorayya Mohammadi was hanged in Qezel-Hesar prison in Karaj. Originally
from Pakdasht, a city in Tehran Province, Sorayya Mohammadi had been
detained in Qarchak Prison for two years. She was transferred to
Qezel-Hesar Prison the day before for implementing her death sentence.
According to the information compiled by the Women's Committee of the
National Council of Resistance of Iran, with the execution of Sorayya
Mohammadi, the number of women executed in Iran since 2007 has reached
235.
Record holder of executions of women
The Iranian regime is the world's top record holder of executions of
women.
No government in the world has executed so many women. The list does not
account for the tens of thousands of women executed in Iran on political
grounds. The NCRI Women's Committee previously mentioned that many of
the women executed by the mullahs' regime are themselves victims of
domestic violence against women and have acted in self-defense. An
average of 15 women were executed every year under the former government
in Iran. However, 26 women were executed under Raisi government in 2023,
which is 11 more than the previous average. The NCRI Women's Committee
calls on the United Nations, the European Union, and other relevant
international organizations to take urgent action to save the lives of
those on death row and stop the use of death penalty in Iran.>>

Iranwire - 1 May, 2024
<<Banning IRGC Not in UK's Interest: David Cameron
Former British Prime Minister and present foreign secretary David
Cameron has said proscribing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)
as a terrorist group would not be in Britain's interest. In a Tuesday
session with the House of Lords International Relations and Defense
Committee, Cameron said that the United Kingdom had already taken
sufficient steps to pressurize the Islamic Republic. He insisted that
proscribing the IRGC would break in important diplomatic relations with
Iran. <We have sanctioned the IRGC in its entirety. When I ask law
enforcement, police, intelligence services, others, is this extra step
of proscription necessary in order to take further action against these
people when they do the things that we disapprove of, the answer is no,>
he said. He added, <There is a disadvantage, to be frank about it, from
proscription, which is it would effectively end diplomatic relations,
and while our diplomatic relations are pretty terse, and I say that with
meaning as someone who has had very many conversations with the Iranian
foreign minister, we are actually able to have that conversation.> <When
it comes to trying to stop the escalation of the conflict, when it comes
to delivering a very direct message to the Iranians... I want to have
that conversation myself, I don't want to ring up my French counterpart
and say 'could you message the Iranians with this message?' I think that
is not in Britain's interest, that would not strengthen our approach, it
many ways it would weaken it,> he asserted. Founded after the 1979
Islamic Revolution to defend the Islamic Republic from internal dissent
and balance the power of the formerly royalist armed forces, the IRGC,
also known as the Sepah, is often portrayed as a single entity. But over
the decades, it has grown into a bloated, multi-departmental bureaucracy
that has a massive impact on Iran's military, economy, and, to an
increasing degree, wider society.>>

<<Female taxi drivers in Tehran face discrimination
Female taxi drivers in Iran are subjected to sexist discourses,
harassment, insults and threats by male taxi drivers and other male
drivers.
Tehran- There are 4,830 female taxi drivers across Iran and 2,900 of
them working in Tehran alone, according to the Islamic Republic News
Agency (IRNA). Most female taxi drivers offer services only to women and
families.
'Female taxi drivers are subjected to harassment and insults'
Nadia Shokofa has worked as a taxi driver in Tehran for about 10 years
by breaking gender stereotypes. She often faces sexist discourses while
doing her profession. <Male drivers are aggressive to female taxi
drivers. They stop our car or do not allow us to get in. They use nasty
language against us. This situation is very difficult for us because we
have to work for our family. We try to put halal food on the table for
our children.>
'She was threatened after filing a complaint'
Nadia Shokofa filed a complaint to the Taxi Association of Tehran
against a male driver, who insulted and sexually harassed her. Instead
of defending my rights, the association asked for documents from me. I
told them, <If a woman had not been subjected to verbal harassment, why
would she file a complaint? They did nothing to the man but threatened
me to send me to Karaj even if I live in Tehran. I had to remain
silent.>
'Women should support each other more'
Nadia Sholofa was subjected to discrimination and then fired. <I am a
woman struggling to survive and raise her children by earning halal
money but I was subjected to discrimination,> she said. <I have good
contact with my customers. We share our thoughts and experiences and
listen to each other. I wait for them when they need to buy something.
When they do not have money, I do not ask for money from them. Women are
oppressed everywhere. I think women should support and stand with each
other more.> >>
