Narges Mohammadi
Jinha - Womens News Agency 8 Oct 2024
<<Narges Mohammadi: The perpetrators of war are the outcasts and the
disgraced throughout history
"The perpetrators of war are the outcasts and the disgraced throughout
history," Narges Mohammadi said in a letter Evin Prison to the Norwegian
Nobel Committee, marking the anniversary of her Nobel Peace Prize.
News Center- Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian human rights activist and
Nobel Peace Prize laureate, wrote a letter from inside the notorious
Evin Prison to the Norwegian Nobel Committee on October 6, marking one
year since the announcement of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to
her.
"One day, not too far from now, you will hear the anthem of our
liberation from gender apartheid and the victory anthem of the Iranian
people ending tyranny. That day will undoubtedly come, and you will
share in our victory celebration," she said in her letter.
Her letter is as follows:
"Peace is not just the absence of destruction, death, and the terror
caused by war; it is also liberation from living under the ominous
shadow of tyranny, poverty, discrimination, threats, execution,
oppression, the anxiety of insecurity, and being forgotten and
voiceless. I do not believe that women-these numerous beings who have
been pushed to despair by the severe discrimination, complex
inequalities, and deeply rooted historical oppressions in countries that
appear not to be at war-can feel peace. The Nobel Peace Prize in 2023
awarded to me reflects the global attention and influence on the
conscious and fighting women of Iran. It was a hope for the women of the
Middle East. It was a support for the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement
and a tribute to Mahsa (Zhina) Amini.

Jina Amini
The world's most prestigious award was given to a woman in Iran who is
fighting for human rights and women’s rights, who dreams of a transition
from tyranny to democracy, and whose ideals are freedom and equality.
Its direct meaning was to support the committed democratic movement for
human rights and women's rights. The announcement of the Nobel Peace
Prize 2023 began with the slogan of the Iranian people's movement.
Hearing "Women, Life, Freedom" from the podium of the Nobel Peace
Foundation was like an echo of the slogan of the protesting women and
men in the streets, for which you have worked for a year to have it
heard in the world. I sincerely thank you. Even though I face many long
years of imprisonment ahead, even though my phone calls were cut off
just 50 days after receiving the award, even though I lost my father
this year and did not even say goodbye at his grave, even though the
separation from Kiana and Ali is an unbearable and unhealing pain that
does not leave me, I am filled with the fervor of resistance, life, and
struggle. I will endure any suffering, deprivation, and hardship for the
sake of peace, democracy, and human rights, and the hardships will make
me stronger and more resilient. One day, not too far from now, you will
hear the anthem of our liberation from gender apartheid and the victory
anthem of the Iranian people ending tyranny. That day will undoubtedly
come, and you will share in our victory celebration. Today, we are
extremely far from the peace that has been the aspiration of all the
good-hearted people of the world. This distance can be bridged with
strong will, courage, resilience, and the solidarity of peace-loving
people." >>

Leila Qaemi
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - Oct 7, 2024
<<Iran Executes Female Prisoner Leila Qaemi in Karaj's Ghezel Hesar
Prison
The death sentence of a female prisoner identified as Leila Ghaemi, from
Tehran, who was imprisoned in Qarchak Varamin Prison and had previously
been sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary on charges of
<premeditated murder,> was carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human
Rights, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the death sentence of Leila
Ghaemi, from Tehran and a mother of one, was carried out in Ghezel Hesar
Prison, Karaj. According to informed sources, this prisoner had been
serving her sentence in Qarchak Varamin Prison and was transferred to
Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj a few days ago for the execution of the
death sentence. Leila Ghaemi was arrested eight years ago on charges of
the premeditated murder of her husband and was sentenced to death by the
Iranian judiciary. At the same time as this prisoner, the death
sentences of eight other prisoners, including two Afghan nationals, were
also carried out in this prison.>>

Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - Oct 6, 2024
<<A Woman Victim of Child Marriage Executed in Ahar Prison, Iran
The death sentence of a female prisoner named Akhtar Ghorbanloo, who had
previously been sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary on charges
of <premeditated murder,> has been carried in Ahar Prison. This woman, a
victim of child marriage, was arrested and sentenced to death for the
murder of her husband. According to a report received by the Hengaw
Organization for Human Rights, the death sentence of Akhtar Ghorbanloo,
a victim of child marriage and forced marriage, was carried out on
Tuesday morning, October 1, 2024, in the Central Prison of Ahar, East
Azerbaijan Province. According to sources, she was forced into marriage
at the age of 17 with a man who was 18 years older than her. She was
ultimately arrested for allegedly murdering her husband by drugging and
was then sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary. To date, the news
of the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by the Iranian
state media, particularly those affiliated with the judiciary.
Child marriage has become a legal norm in Iran, promoted by the
propaganda apparatus of the Islamic Republic, while in democratic
countries and according to human rights standards, any form of sexual or
sentimental relationship between adults and children is considered a
serious crime that is subject to severe penalties. Under Islamic family
law, providing sexual services to the husband is deemed a duty of women.
This means that sexual assault against children and women within the
framework of <legal marriage> in Iran is sanctioned by the Islamic
Republic and is even actively promoted.>>

Fatemeh Moradpour
NCRI - Womens committee - 4 Oct 2024 - in Women's News
<<Fatemeh Moradpour, 15, Commits Suicide Under Pressure for Forced
Marriage
Fatemeh Moradpour, a 15-year-old girl from Lorestan, took her own life
after being pressured by her family to marry. This tragic event occurred
on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, in Rumeshkan, a town in Lorestan province.
Her family had been pressuring her to marry a 40-year-old married man.
Having repeatedly refused the marriage, Fatemeh Moradpour eventually
resorted to suicide and hanged herself. Child brides and early marriage
are examples of violence against women. In Iran, the misogynous regime
constantly encourages early marriage. At the same time, suicide is
rising among child brides and victims of early marriage. Forced marriage
in Iran which is usually done in the case of child marriages is a clear
example of violence against women and girls. In the misogynistic regime
of Velayat-e-Faqih, the laws have made Iran one of the countries with
the lowest age of marriage for girls. The girl's father or family
usually forces these marriages. UNICEF considers marriages of people
under the age of 18 to be an example of child marriage. However, under
the mullahs' misogynistic laws, the minimum legal age for girls to marry
in Iran is 13. A girl under the age of 13 can also sit at the wedding
table with her father's permission and that of a judge.>>

Varisheh Moradi
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - Oct 11, 2024 - Statements
<<World Day Against the Death Penalty: Unlimited Hunger Strike by
Varisheh Moradi in Protest of Executions in Iran
Varisheh Moradi (also known as Ciwana Sine), a Kurdish political
prisoner and member of the The East Kurdistan Free Woman Society (KJAR),
began an unlimited hunger strike on World Day Against the Death Penalty.
Her strike is in protest of her uncertain legal status and the rising
number of executions carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights,
on Thursday, October 10, 2024, Moradi, who is accused of <baghi> (armed
rebellion), launched her hunger strike to protest the increasing
issuance and execution of death sentences, as well as her unresolved
case in Tehran's Evin Prison. Her second court session took place on
October 5, 2024, in Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court,
presided over by Judge Abolqasem Salavati. During the session, Moradi
and her lawyers were not allowed to present a defense. Her lawyers, who
were previously denied access to her case file, were only given a few
hours to review it after the session. Notably, Varisheh Moradi's second
trial session had initially been postponed on August 4, 2024, after
after she refused to attend in protest of the issuance of death
sentences for Pakhshan Azizi and Sharifeh Mohammadi.

Sharifeh Mohammadi and Pakhshan Azizi
The trial was delayed again on August 28, 2024, due to the absence of
the prosecutor's representative and the presiding judge, Judge Amouzad.
Since May 6, 2024, Moradi has been denied the right to contact family
members or lawyers, as well as the right to receive visitation, by order
of Judge Salavati. Following the execution of Kurdish political prisoner
Reza Rasai, who was arrested during the (Woman, Life, Freedom), a
protest erupted among female inmates at Evin Prison on August 6, 2024.
This protest escalated into a clash between prisoners and guards,
leading to further punishment for several prisoners, including Varisheh
Moradi, who were denied family contact for two additional months by the
prison's disciplinary committee. Moradi's first court session took place
on June 16, 2024, where she was charged with <baghi> due to her
membership in KJAR. During that session, neither she nor her lawyers
were allowed to present a defense. On May 14, 2024, Moradi was
transferred to solitary confinement in Ward 209 of Evin Prison for
further interrogation. In protest of this transfer, she and Pakhshan
Azizi began a two-day hunger strike. In February 2024, Moradi was
formally charged with <baghi through membership in the Free Life Party
of Kurdistan (PJAK)> by the 5th Branch of the Tehran Public and
Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office. Her case was later referred to Branch
15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Salavati,
after an indictment was issued. Varisheh Moradi was transferred to the
women’s ward of Evin Prison on December 26, 2023, after spending five
months in solitary confinement in Ward 209. Earlier in August 2023, she
had been transferred to Evin Prison following interrogations and torture
at the Intelligence department's detention center in Sanandaj, where she
was subjected to both physical and psychological torture. It is worth
noting that Moradi was forcibly disappeared by agents of the
Intelligence Department on August 1, 2023, on the Marivan-Sanandaj road.
During the enforced disappearance, she was severely beaten and
transferred to a detention center without receiving any medical
attention.>>

A criminal court in northwestern Ajabshir sentenced a state TV reporter
to prison for his Instagram posts. Hossein Jafarian, a journalist with
the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), was sentenced to 13
months and 16 days in prison by the Second Criminal Court of Ajabshir.
According to HRANA, a human rights news agency, the court issued its
ruling on October 6, which was formally communicated to Jafarian. The
sentence stems from charges of <spreading false information on the
Internet> based on content he posted on his personal Instagram account.
Jafarian also manages the online media outlet Farhang Ajabshir and has

<<Iran to Launch Anti-Baha'i Propaganda Exhibition
Authorities of the Islamic Republic in northern Sari are planning to
launch an exhibition to promote propaganda against religious minorities.
Iranian media has reported on an upcoming exhibition titled <Water and
Mirage,> which will focus on propaganda against religious minorities,
particularly the Baha'i faith. According to the IRNA news agency, the
<Water and Mirage> exhibition will be held for one week starting on
October 12, in collaboration with the Institute for Studies on Sects and
Religions, the Mazandaran Department of Culture and Islamic Guidance,
and the Sari Municipality, at a park. The exhibition is being organized
with the goal of what the organizers describe as <familiarizing the
public with the thoughts and deviations> of religious minorities in
Iran. On Wednesday, during a press conference to unveil the exhibition's
poster, Ehsan Ahangar, Director of Mazandaran's Department of Culture
and Islamic Guidance, warned about the <propaganda activities> of
Baha'is. Ahangar also claimed that Baha'i adherents in Iran <commit the
most offenses and are identified and punished by relevant authorities,
but they are always portrayed as victims in society.> The Iranian
government does not recognize the Baha'i faith, and its followers have
faced systematic discrimination in the country for decades. Baha'is have
been persecuted in Iran because of their faith and are often accused of
being spies or opposing the Iranian government. The Baha'i International
Community states that no evidence has been provided to support these
charges.>>

Mohammad Taghavi
Iranwire - October 9, 2024
<<Political Prisoner in Critical Condition After Month-Long Hunger
Strike
Mohammad Taghavi, a political prisoner held in Ward 209 of Evin Prison
since July 1, is in critical condition following a month-long hunger
strike.
Taghavi's protest aims to secure his transfer to the general ward and to
draw attention to the torture of his cellmate and the fabricated charges
against him and his co-defendants. A source said that on Sunday, Taghavi
was brought to court for a hearing. His appearance shocked those present
due to his extremely frail condition, resulting from the prolonged
hunger strike. Taghavi was moved from the general ward to the more
restrictive Ward 209 four months ago on orders from Judge Iman Afshari.
Since then, he has reportedly faced harassment and torture aimed at
extracting forced confessions. The political prisoner shares a cell with
two others, including an Afghan prisoner, who is said to be in critical
condition due to severe torture. Taghavi's hunger strike is partly in
protest of his cellmate's treatment. A court session for Taghavi and six
other political prisoners, including his brother Mojtaba Taghavi, was
held on October 6. Taghavi, along with four co-defendants, faces charges
of <rebellion,> with prosecutors seeking the death penalty.>>
