<<University Student Beaten by Security Forces in Tehran Campus
Iranian security forces beat a female student on February 26 at Tehran Azad University’s main campus, IranWire has learned. IranWire obtained a video capturing the cries of the beaten student held inside a room, while individuals in plainclothes appear to stand guard, instructing others to leave. A female security officer can also be heard dispersing protesting students. Credible sources said that male and female members of the university's security forces are patrolling the campus to enforce dress codes with unprecedented strictness. They also noted a surge in surveillance cameras across the university, with nearly every corner being monitored. Students accused of not complying with regulations, for instance women allegedly wearing a headscarf improperly, are immediately identified and referred to the university's disciplinary committee. These actions come as professors and students critical of the Islamic Republic continue to be suppressed within the university.>>

<<Iranian Rapper Languishing in Prison Tells Judiciary: <Take My Life Too>
Saman Yasin, a well-known Iranian rapper imprisoned since the 2022 nationwide uprising, has asked the judiciary to decide about his fate after enduring more than a year of torture. In a letter published on Yasin's Instagram account, Yasin painted a picture of despair and frustration. <You've staged mock executions, hospitalized me....What's left? Take my life too and be done with it,> he wrote. <In the past 18 months, court dates have been scheduled numerous times but were never held,> the artist added. Yasin, a vocal critic of Iran's clerical establishment, was arrested on October 2, 2022, and tortured during his detention before being sentenced to death on October 29 on the charge of <waging war against God.>
The Supreme Court later overturned the sentence.
In his letter, Yasin highlighted his ongoing struggles with mental and physical health issues, saying, <I continue to suffer, yet incompetent officials cannot even facilitate my access to medical care.> <Please inform me of the crime I have committed. If I am found guilty, then imprison me, if not, then acquit me,> he wrote. <I do not know what the hostility and harassment of the judicial authorities towards me mean. <I demand my execution! I cannot endure imprisonment and uncertainty for a crime that remains undisclosed to both you and me.> >>

<<Graffiti artists paint women's resistance on walls of Qamishlo
As the International Women's Day is approaching, the members of the Orchide Graffiti Group painted graffiti showing women's resistance on the walls of Qamishlo.
Qamishlo- As the International Women's Day is approaching, many activities have been held in North and East Syria to point to the women's resistance and struggle. The Orchidê Graffiti Group started its activities for the IWD by painting graffiti on the walls of Qamishlo, northeastern Syria.
<Our group members take part in many activities and events and we will keep carrying out activities,> said Ronaz Heyder, one of the group members portraying 21 women in the graffiti on the walls of the Munir Hebîb neighborhood of Qamishlo.
'Women have showed a great resistance'
Pointing to the resistance of Kurdish women, Ronaz Heyder said, <As women of Jazira Canton, we have launched a campaign to mark the International Women's Day. Kurdish women have shown a great resistance in four parts of Kurdistan, especially in Rojava Kurdistan. We painted graffiti showing their resistance. The graffiti on the walls of Qamishlo also shows the unity of women. As you see, we portrayed women wearing traditional Kurdish dresses.> Ronaz Heyder wished a happy International Women's Day to all women and said, <We also painted the 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi' resistance that has echoed all over the world. We dedicate our graffiti to all women, especially the women of North and East Syria. We hope this year will be a year of happiness and greater success for women.> >>

Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 26 Feb 2024
<<Suspicious Death of a Kurdish Political Prisoner in Urmia Central Prison
Shahin Galadari, a 50-year-old Kurdish political prisoner from Urmia, lost his life under suspicious circumstances in Urmia Central Prison. Prison officials have announced that his death was ruled as suicide. According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Shahin Galadari, a resident of the village of Haki in the Targavar region of Urmia, was serving a two-year sentence and suspiciously died on the evening of Sunday, February 25, 2024, in Urmia Central Prison. A reliable source indicates that prison authorities in Urmia informed inmates and Galadari's family that the victim had taken his own life. His body has been transferred to the forensics department in Urmia for examination. Hengaw has been informed that Shahin Galadari was recently transferred to the special office of the intelligence department located in Urmia prison, as well as to the detention center of the intelligence department, where he was subjected to physical and mental torture by the interrogators. Additionally, his mustache was forcibly shaved. Shahin Galadari was initially arrested on February 28th, 2019 without a judicial warrant during a raid by Urmia Intelligence forces. He was temporarily released on bail while awaiting legal proceedings. Later, he was sentenced to two years of imprisonment by the Urmia Revolutionary Court in February 2021 on charges of <acts against national security.> It is worth noting that Shahin Galadari was detained in February 2021 to serve his two-year sentence and was transferred to Urmia Central Prison. According to statistics recorded at the Statistics and Documents Center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in 2023, at least 35 prisoners died in Iranian prisons, with approximately 60% of them being Kurdish detainees. Among those Kurdish prisoners, at least 12 died in the prisons of Urmia (West Azarbaijan) province.>>

Mehdi Yarrahi 'Soroode zendegi' (Live's anthem)

Iranwire - 26 Feb 2024
<<Iranian Anti-Headscarf "Woman, Life, Freedom" Singer Tagged with Ankle Band
Mehdi Yarrahi, an Iranian singer who released a song last year criticizing compulsory headscarf rules in the country, will wear an electronic monitoring tag instead of serving a one-year prison sentence, his lawyer has said. <His one-year imprisonment has been altered to wearing an electronic tag, with a restriction on movement within a radius of 1,000 meters, due to his illness and receiving medical care,> lawyer Zahra Minuei announced on February 25. Yarrahi was arrested in August last year and later released from custody after a fellow artist posted a 15 billion toman ($300,000) bail.
He was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, as well as 74 lashes. Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code qualified Yarrahi for a one-year reduction of the prison term. He was apprehended following the release of his song "Roosarito,> or "Your Headscarf" in English, which was accompanied by a video showing women in public social settings without their mandatory headscarves and some dancing to the music. Yarrahi dedicated the song to the <brave women of Iran who shine courageously at the forefront of the 'Women Life Freedom' movement,'> a reference to the nationwide protest movement sparked by the September 2022 death of Mahsa Amini while in police custody for an alleged hijab violation.
As a protest against Yarrahi's arrest, Iranian social media users posted and shared videos of their own dance performances and renditions of his songs.>>

<<Iranian Azeri Activist Declares Hunger Strike from Even Prison
The Iranian-Azeri civil activist Morteza Parvin-Joda has begun a hunger strike Tehran's Evin Prison to protest his continued detention, lack of proper medical care, and the pressure he faces to confess to <trumped up> charges. Parvin-Joda, who was arrested at his home in Ardabil on February 6 by intelligence agents and transferred to Evin, revealed his situation in a brief phone call with his family on February 24. He told his family he is accused of <acting against national security through assembly and collusion.> The activist also expressed concern about his worsening lumbar disc disease due to limited access to adequate medical treatment in prison. Parvin-Joda added that his hunger strike was a form of protest against the prosecutor's attempts <to fabricate> a case against him and his continued <illegal> imprisonment. <I don't understand why the interrogators are trying to force a connection between me and people I have no relationship with,> Parvin-Joda told his family before the call was cut. He also said that he intended to continue to refuse to speak during interrogations and that he would maintain the hunger strike until he is <brought before a judge.> Parvin-Joda, a theater actor, had on many previous occasions been detained and sentenced to imprisonment and lashes.>>

<<Iranian Activists Boycott Parliamentary Election and Call for Public Support
Over 275 prominent political and civil activists in Iran have announced they will boycott upcoming parliamentary elections, citing the <deplorable> state of the electoral system, and condemning the <deadlock of reforms,> the <complete elimination of critics,> and the <widespread disqualification of candidates.> The signatories of the February 25 joint statement said these factors, along with the lack of diverse political voices, undermined the legitimacy of the elections. Despite repeated public interventions by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the importance of participating in the elections, many political figures outside Iran, and some inside the country, have chosen the boycott.

Narges Mohammadi
<<Narges Mohammadi, the imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize laureate, joined the boycott by issuing a message in which she said, from inside her prison cell, that "The Islamic Republic deserves national sanctions and global condemnation.> Mohammadi's message, shared on her Instagram account, added that "boycotting the elections of the dictatorial religious regime is not just a political imperative but also a moral duty for those seeking freedom and justice in Iran."
Voters are due to cast their ballots on March 1 to pick new members of the 290-seat legislature from among 15,200 candidates who have been approved by Iran's hardline Guardian Council. The number of candidates is more than double those allowed to stand in the previous elections, in 2020, when voter turnout was at its lowest since the 1979 Islamic Revolution at just over 42 percent.>>

He is currently in his sixth month of detention at Shiraz No. 2 prison. According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Hossein Hosseinpour was recently sentenced to one year in prison by the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz for the charge of <propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran.> It is noted that Hossein Hosseinpour's prison sentence has been reduced to 11 months of imprisonment. <<Dozens of Inmates Died in Iran's Prisons Last Year
At least 32 inmates died within the confines of the Islamic Republic's prisons last year, according to a human rights group. Nine of them were political prisoners, Hengaw said on February 23. At least 11 of the reported deaths were caused by torture. Other fatalities were caused by delayed medical treatment or denial of healthcare, fighting between inmates, suicides and suspected poisonings. Sixty percent of those who died inside prisons were Kurds. Hengaw condemned these deaths as <extrajudicial killings,> and pointed to them as evidence of systemic human rights violations in Iran. The organization called upon the International Criminal Court to launch a thorough investigation into the matter and emphasized the urgent need for accountability and justice for the victims and their families.>>
