Abbas (Mujahed) Kurkur
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - Dec 25 2023
<<Confirmation of Death Sentence for Mujahed Kurkur Raises Concerns of Imminent Execution
The Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic of Iran has officially confirmed the death sentence of Abbas (Mujahed) Kurkur, a detainee associated with the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi movement in Izeh. Mujahed Kurkur, who has spent the past year and four days in prison, had previously received a death sentence from the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court. With the transfer of his case to Izeh, he now faces a significant risk of execution. According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights on Sunday, December 24, 2023, the 39th branch of the Supreme Court in Iran upheld the death sentence of Mujahed Kurkur, an individual of Lor Bakhtiari descent from Izeh. He had been wounded in an armed attack by Revolutionary Guards forces during the Women, Life, Freedom movement, which led to his subsequent arrest. Negar Kurkur, the sister of Mujahed Kurkur, announced the confirmation of her brother's death sentence on her personal Instagram page, revealing that the case was transferred from the first branch of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court to the Izeh Court. The right to life stands as the most fundamental human right, and its denial renders human rights meaningless. Despite the paramount importance of the right to life, the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran consistently ranks high among countries that infringe upon this right. Hengaw calls on all human rights and international organizations to exert pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran, urging the prevention of the loss of prisoners' lives, particularly those who are political prisoners and detainees of the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi movement. On April 7 of this year, the <Mizan> news agency, affiliated with the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, announced the death sentence for Mujahed Kurkur, a protester charged with <war against God and corruption in the land.> This sentence was initially issued by the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court, with charges related to the alleged murder of Kian Pirfalak, a 9-year-old child killed during the Women, Life, Freedom movement.
While the judicial system, authorities, and government media have attempted to attribute Kian Pirfalak's murder to Mujahed Kurkur, the mother of Kian Pirfalak, |Mahmunir Moulairad|, disputed these claims during the funeral ceremony for her son. She asserted that it was the <security forces> who fired at their car, resulting in Kian's death and severe injuries to his father. She emphatically stated, |<I, Mother Kian, will never accept anyone among my fellow citizens whom you introduce as a murderer.>| Previously, the judiciary of the Islamic Republic attributed the killing of seven individuals in Izeh on November 16, 2022, to Abbas (Mujahed) Kurkur, along with Bahman Bahmani, Hossein Saeedi, and Mahmoud Ahmadi. In January 2023, the public and revolutionary prosecutor of Izeh city announced legal action against 70 protesters related to the public gatherings in the city. Mujahed Kurkur, currently held in Shiban prison in Ahvaz, was subjected to torture to obtain a forced confession and was denied access to his basic rights, including face-to-face visits. Mujahed Kurkur was wounded and arrested on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, during an armed attack by IRGC forces on the village of <Persorakh> in Izeh. Additionally, during the shooting by IRGC forces, two other protesters, Mahmoud Ahmadi and Hossein Saeedi, lost their lives.>>

<<Two individuals from Behbahan Arrested after participating in the death anniversary of Kian Pirfalak
Two citizens identified as Ali Akwani and Ebrahim Armash from Behbahan city were taken into custody after partaking in the death anniversaries of Kian Pirfalak and Milad Saiedianjou, who lost their lives during the (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) Woman, Life, Freedom movement. According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, November 9, 2023, Ali Akwani and Ebrahim Armash from Behbahan City were arrested in Izeh after their attendance at the death anniversaries of Kian Pirfalak and Milad Saiedianjou. As of the release date of this news, there is no information on the reasons for these arrests, the imputed charges, or the current status of these two prisoners. Kian Pirfalak, a 10-year-old-child, and Milad Saiedianjou, 26 years old, lost their lives on November 16, 2023, by direct gunfire from security agents in Izeh city.>>

<<Mother of Slain Nine-Year-Old Iranian Boy Forced into Silence
Iranian authorities are exerting intense pressure on the family of Kian Pirfalak, a nine-year-old boy who was killed during nationwide protests last year, ahead of the one-year anniversary of his death. Kian and several other people lost their lives when government forces indiscriminately fired live ammunition on people during protests in the southwestern city of Izeh on November 16, 2022. Officials have labeled the Izeh massacre as a <terrorist> act and attributed it to government opponents. The Pirfalak family rejected the claims and said the boy was shot by the security forces in his parent's car. Kian's outspoken mother, Mahmonir Molaei-Rad, publicly accused Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his security forces of being responsible for her son's death. A source from Izeh tells IranWire that security officials have now forced Molaei-Rad into silence by issuing threats against her and the entire family. The source hints that the authorities are apprehensive about potential large gatherings taking place on the anniversary of Kian's death. In June, Molaei-Rad organized a commemoration to mark what would have been Kian's 10th birthday and called on all Iranians to join. The Iranian diaspora responded to the call by holding ceremonies across the globe on that day. In the days leading up to Kian's birthday, security agents conducted a raid on Molaei-Rad's home, engaged in violent confrontations with family members and confiscated several personal items. And on Kian's birthday, Molaei-Rad's 21-year-old cousin, Pouya, was shot and killed by security forces while he was heading to the boy's gravesite in the village of Parchestan, Izeh. According to IranWire sources, security institutions interrogated Molaei-Rad after Pouya's death and conditioned the handover of his body to the family's silence. <The Molaei-Rad and Pirfalak families have retreated from public life due to the immense pressure they have experienced and continue to face,> IranWire's source says. Almost no one in Izeh directly communicates with the families, the source says, adding, <They are under intense surveillance.> >>

Shukrah a thousand times mrs. Mahmonir Molaei-Rad for being a more than brave mother and woman of Iran. I pray to Allah to support her in these too difficult, grieving and hard times that only add more grief than you already feel. Bless you.

<<Security Forces Pressure Slain Child's Family and Brand Mother <Seditious>
Concerns are rising as access to the family of the slain child, Kian Pirfalak, has become impossible amid mounting pressures from security forces, and sporadic reports of house arrests, IranWire reveals. The latest situation began on June 11, what would have been the tenth birthday of Kian, a young child who lost his life on November 16 of last year, during nationwide protests. Sources close to Kian's family told IranWire that Islamic Republic security forces have encircled the residence of Kian's parents since Sunday, accompanied by the reported seizure of all household items. Adding to the uncertainty, Kian's uncle took to Twitter, suggesting that they were being harassed and pressured by the security forces. But he refuted reports of house arrests and other reports concerning the family. <The rumors are false: no family members have faced movement restrictions. We appeal to our fellow compatriots to refrain from accepting and spreading baseless rumors,> Kian's uncle said on June 16. Islamic Republic media outlets also launched a scathing attack on Kian's mother, Mahmonir Molaei, branding her as <seditious.> The absence of Kian's mother at her son's birthday gathering, the mystery surrounding her current whereabouts, and the latest revelation of restricted access to the family have only deepened concerns regarding the treatment of this grief-stricken family. In the months following her son's death, Mahmonir Molaei has vehemently criticized the Islamic Republic and demanded justice for her son's killers.>>

Deeply felt opinion by Gino d'Artali: All the mother and family of Kian Pirfalak want is JUSTICE NOW!!! Also for Kian 'Javidnam' the immortal. Allah has his soul.
Long live a free Iran

Iranwire - July 14, 2023 - by SAMANEH GHADARKHAN
We are launching the hashtag #Where_Is_Mahmonir? as a rallying call for information on the whereabouts of Mahmonir Molaei-Rad, the mother of Kian Pirfalak, a nine-year-old boy who was killed during nationwide protests last year. Kian and several other Izeh residents lost their lives when government forces fired live ammunition on protesters in the south-western city on November 16. Officials have labeled the Izeh massacre as a <terrorist> act and attributed it to government opponents. Pirfalak's mother rejected the claims at her son's funeral, accusing security forces of firing bullets at the family's car. Security officers had tried to scare Mahmonir and other people away from attending a memorial service for Kian on June 11 this year, which would have marked the boy's 10th birthday. That day, Pouya Molaei-Rad, Mahmonir's 21-year-old cousin, was killed by gunfire from government forces near the cemetery where Kian is laid to rest. A photograph showing Mahmonir lost in thought at her cousin's funeral, with her hands tightly clasped around her knees, was widely shared on social media. According to IranWire sources, security institutions interrogated Mahmonir after Pouya's death, and conditioned the hand-over of his body to the family to her silence. IranWire's attempts to interview Abdullah Izadpanah, Izeh's representative in parliament, have been unsuccessful. Yousefali Savari, the former head of Izeh City Council, who previously taught in the city at the elementary level, was familiar with the Molaei-Rad and Pirfalak families. When asked about Mahmonir's current situation, Savari stated, <This is an issue that doesn't concern us. Our lives are governed by the system.> Before abruptly ending the conversation, he said he had no information about the fate of Mahmonir and her family, and that he will not pursue the matter or offer any support to them. Mahmonir's current location remains unknown. Concerns also linger regarding the fate of the Molaei-Rad and Pirfalak families.
Is Mahmonir under house arrest?
After the killing of Pouya Molaei-Rad, several sources reported that Mahmonir and her husband Meysam, as well as their other child Radin, have been placed under house arrest at the residence of Meysam's mother. A heightened security presence has been reported in the village where Mahmonir's family resides. A source close to the Molaei-Rad and Pirfalak families told IranWire: <Following the tragic incident involving Pouya Molaei-Rad, Mahmonir faced significant pressure, primarily from the security establishment. They tried to portray her as being responsible for Pouya's tragic death, both in the city where Mahmonir resides and on social media platforms used by security agencies.> According to the source, Mahmonir was summoned to the Izeh Intelligence Department after Pouya's death. <She was interrogated for two to three hours, and her Instagram account was shut down during the interrogation,> said the source. The source said that Mahmonir <did not accept> the conditions set for the release of Pouya's body to the family - that Mahmonir ceases her online activity, refrains from seeking justice, and says that security forces were not involved in her child's death. On June 17, reliable sources reported the arrest of Sajjad Pirfalak, an uncle of Kian. The individual who spoke with IranWire said the arrest was part of escalating pressure put on the Molaei-Rad and Pirfalak families prior to the release of Pouya's body. <The family was in a dire situation, confused and undecided until several security agents suddenly attacked Sajjad Pirfalak in the an unusually forceful manner.>
<They forcibly put him in a vehicle and took him away. This occurred after Sajjad and his lawyer were summoned multiple times. Eventually, Sajjad was released on a bail of 2 billion tomans ($40,000).> As a result of the pressure exerted on him, the man has put an end to his online activities, the source said. The accusations Sajjad Pirfalak is facing are often used by security institutions to fabricate cases against critics of the Islamic Republic and its officials. <Sajad Pirfalak's charges, such as activities and propaganda against the system and disturbing public order, are general and vague. These accusations can be leveled for minor things such as liking a post on social media, sharing a tweet or posting a simple story,> the source said.
Meysam Pirfalak's Worrying Mental Condition
Kian's father Meysam Pirfalak, his uncle Sajjad, his other uncle Mehrdad and their family lawyer have all faced threats from security institutions. The authorities have summoned them for questioning and filed cases against them. Even Dawood Shahvali, the lawyer representing the Molaei-Rad and Pirfalak families, has faced legal action on charges such as <disrupting public order> and <disseminating false information in cyberspace.> Both Sajjad and Mahmonir have been banned from online activities, and their social media accounts are no longer accessible. According to informed sources, Meysam Pirfalak's mental well-being has significantly deteriorated as a result of these pressures. <Following the arrest of his brother Sajjad and Pouya's tragic death, Meysam Pirfalak has experienced intense mental pressure that led to a deterioration in his mental state. Even though Sajjad has been released, Meysam continues to endure significant pressure,> said one source.
Mahmonir at the Center of Threats
According to Mahmonir's relatives, the threats from security forces began immediately after Kian's death and have since intensified. <Since the day she lost her child, this mother has never been free from the threats imposed by the security forces,> a family member said. <The threats became increasingly severe and intense when Mahmonir faced legal prosecution, and they further intensified after Pouya's death.> <They attempted to prevent Pouya's burial from becoming a significant event similar to Kian's funeral, and unfortunately, they succeeded. Through their threats, they controlled the burial of the deceased.> <Initially, Pouya's body was held hostage, and the family was not allowed to proceed with the [burial] arrangements. The Molaei-Rad family was informed that if Mahmonir openly declared that Kian was not killed by the police, they would release Pouya's body.> According to this source, the threats have to some extent diminished because Sajjad Pirfalak was released on a hefty bail. However, security forces continue to exert pressure on Mahmonir through various means. Her relatives emphasized that Izeh residents stand firmly with the Pirfalek and Molaei-Rad families and refuse to abandon them. <The people of Izeh are courageous and resilient, refusing to yield to oppression,> a relative said. <They have made a solemn commitment to stand by the family until the day a statue of Kian is erected in the city's main square.> >>
