<<The Tulips: A Moving Tribute Film to Slain Child Kian Pirfalak
Kian Pirfalak was just nine years old when he was shot and killed, in
the back of his father’s car, by the Iranian security services. He was
shot on November 16, 2022, and buried two days later. Kian's father was
injured, as well, suffering spinal cord trauma. He was nevertheless
summoned by a court for questioning. June 11 would have been Kian’s
tenth birthday. But instead of celebrating his young and promising life,
his family was being threatened by the Iranian authorities, and his
mother’s cousin was shot and killed by security forces as he attended
mourning ceremonies on the young boy's birth date. Hundreds of people
attended Kian's funeral on November 18 and his name has since become
synonymous with the unrestrained and indiscriminate use of brutal and
lethal force by the Iranian authorities to suppress nationwide protests
that began in Iran in September of last year. Witnesses and relatives of
Kian’s family have previously told IranWire that the car was riddled
with at least seven bullets.
A new film called <The Tulips>, by Iranian filmmaker Farzan Deljou,
tells the story of Kian's death, its aftermath for his family, amid the
wider context of unrest in Iran. Deljou's film, which uses footage of
Kian himself, clips of street protests, news bulletins from
international media, and reconstructions of Kian and his family using
actors, is intended as a tribute not only to Kian but to the lives of
all those <martyred in the protests>.
<I love my father, my mother and everybody in the world,> Kian says in
the film. <That is why .... I want to grow up to be an inventor so that
the world will also be proud of Iran.> Kian wanted to become a robotics
engineer when he grew up. Deljou says his film depicts <the stark
reality of the political climate in Iran, where innocent citizens,
including young children like Kian, are often victims of violence and
oppression. This is just one of many such incidents that occurred during
the Women, Life, and Freedom movement in 2022, when Mahsa Zhina Amini
was brutally murdered by the regime's morality police.> One long and
heartbreaking sequence shows a woman, intended as Kian's mother, looking
through the child's clothing and objects in a closet, holding them to
her chest and smelling them, in an effort to remember her son. Two of
the most arresting passages in the film reconstruct the night that Kian
was shot as well as showing actual footage of chants ringing out across
nighttime Iranian city skylines. <I dedicate this film to the families
who have lost their beloved daughters and sons in Iran's struggle for
freedom and justice. It is my hope that this film will help raise
awareness of the ongoing atrocities in Iran and inspire people to take
action to promote peace and human rights around the world,> Deljou
added.>>

<<For Kian's Mother....
Kian Pirfalak's mother, Mahmonir Molaei, has been under house
arrest since Sunday, June 11. Reliable sources confirmed that the
Islamic Republic's security forces have surrounded the residence of Kian
Pirfalak's parents and seized all their household belongings. Agents are
also controlling nearby streets and have blocked any filming in the
area. Since the loss of her son, Mahmonir Molaei has held the agents of
the Islamic Republic accountable for Kian's death.>>

<<Murdering the Cousin on Kian's 10th Birthday
Pouya Molaei-Rad, 19, a cousin of Kian Pirfalak's mother,
Mahmonir Molaei, met a tragic fate on the evening of June 11. Pouya was
killed by gunfire from Iranian security forces, leaving family and
friends devastated by the untimely loss. The incident was made all the
worse because June 11 marked the tenth birthday of Kian Pirfalak, a
young soul whose life was cut short on November 16, 2022, during
nationwide protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in police
custody.>>

<<Iranian Actress Charged for Supporting Slain Child's Family
The Tehran prosecutor's office has charged the renowned Iranian
actress Shaghayegh Dehghan for <publishing false content> following her
public support of Kian Pirflak's mother in a video, Mizan news agency
reported. On June 11, which coincided with the commemoration of what
would have been Kian Pirflak's 10th birthday, security agents prevented
his relatives from visiting his grave. The city experienced heightened
security measures during this time, and, Pouya Molaei-Rad, 19, a cousin
of Kian Pirfalak's mother, Mahmonir Molaei, was shot and killed.
Shaghayegh Dehghan shared a live video from the ceremony of Mahmonir
Molaei's deceased child, expressing her support and addressing her as
<my sister.> Earlier, Dehghan's lawyer, Kaveh Rad, revealed that a court
had initially sentenced her to 10 days in jail for not wearing a hijab
in public. However, the court later commuted the sentence to a fine.
Shaghayegh Dehghan is among the celebrities who joined the <Woman, Life,
Freedom> movement following the death in the custody of Mahsa Amini.>>

<The
Child is not dead.
Dedicated to Kian Pirfalak.
we are not
dead,
even not then when we die as martyrs
for the 'Women, Life, Freedom' revolution
because the killing of the child
and of us
will not have killed us
where you,
Kian Javidnam the immortal,
and us
we'll live forever
in the hearts and thoughts
of the Iranian people
who will continue to fight
untill the torch of freedom
has been set ablaze
and the dictator
has become nothing more
but a bit of dust,
crushed more with every step
we'll take to build a new Iran.
An Iran with open arms
for everyone who accepts all people.
The child is not dead
because as Sepideh Qoliyan shouted outside Evin prison:
<Khamenei the Zahhak! We'll take you down into the grave,>
Long live free Iran.
The child is not dead.>

<Kian, son of a free Iran
and of us all,
we pray to Allah to embrace your soul
like your mother did and and who misses you deeply and intensily
with a pain undiscrable.
Your life has been stolen from you
as they stole a mother
from her oh so precious son.
But know Kian 'Javidnam' the immortal,
you continue to live
in the hearts of all people
who want two things only,
that the killings of innocent children stop
and a free Iran.
Because the sun was hiding
in fear of having to look down
and its rays shining on those heinous killings.
As the wind lost all orientation and direction
on which way to blow its gentle breezes.
The clouds tried to overcast all
but knew there was and is no way
to 'cover it up'
nor did they want to.
So let us all rise and bring the sun, wind and the clouds in all its
glory back
and to bring the guilty ones
to the international court of crimes against humanity
and let justice prevail.
Long live free Iran.
