<<Jailed Iranian Protester’s Family Harassed after Death Sentence
Quashed
The father of jailed Iranian protester Sahand Noor Mohammadzadeh
says security agents continue to harass and threaten his family after
his son's death sentence was quashed by the judiciary. Noor
Mohammadzadeh was arrested in front of his house in Tehran during
protests on October 4, 2022, and was sentenced to death two months later
for allegedly attempting to break the guardrail of a highway and setting
fire to a dustbin. The Supreme Court canceled the death sentence in
March this year and sentenced him to six years of imprisonment and 10
years of exile in Kerman Province, according to his lawyer. In a recent
interview with the Emtedad news website, Noor Mohammadzadeh's father,
Jafar, said he had received a call from an individual claiming to be a
representative of a security agency. <Do not assume that Sahand's
execution was halted due to the efforts of your lawyer or domestic and
foreign media. The kindness of the system is behind the decision to
change the sentence,> he quoted the man as saying.
<Do not think that execution is the only form of punishment for
Moharebeh [waging war against God]. It can also result in exile,
amputation and other severe punishment,> the man also said. Noor
Mohammadzadeh's lawyer, Hamid Ahmadi, received notification of the
cancellation of the death sentence against his client on March 29.
However, the charge of <waging war against God,> which can carry a death
sentence, still remains in place.
Noor Mohammadzadeh is held in Rajaee Shahr Prison in Karaj, west
of Tehran.
In an audio file sent to IranWire in December, he rejected the
accusations against him. He also said that intimidation and threats by
his interrogators forced him to admit guilt. The prisoner also said he
had been informed of his imminent execution and taken to the gallows on
several occasions. After the release of the audio file, an informed
source disclosed that Noor Mohammadzadeh was subjected to renewed
threats and intense interrogation regarding the recording. At the end of
the questioning process, the authorities told him, <You are making your
case worse with these actions.> Noor Mohammadzadeh defiantly responded,
<I've been sentenced to death for something I didn't do. What more could
happen to me?> >>

<<Iranian Protester At Risk of Execution after <Grossly Unfair
Sham Trial>
Amnesty International has urged Iranian authorities to
immediately quash the conviction and death sentence pronounced against
Mujahid Korkur, a protester who is said to be at grave risk of
execution. The London-based human rights group said that Korkur's
<grossly unfair sham trial was marred by torture-tainted 'confessions'
obtained while he was subjected to enforced disappearance.> In April,
the Iranian judiciary announced that a Revolutionary Court in Ahvaz, the
capital of Khuzestan province, sentenced Korkur to death for <enmity
against God,> <corruption on Earth> and <armed rebellion against the
state.> His appeal remains pending before the Supreme Court. Korkur was
arrested on December 20, 2022, after the killing of nine-year-old Kian
Pirfalak and several other Izeh residents when government forces opened
fire on protesters in the south-western city on November 16. During his
arrest, Korkur sustained injuries to his knee from live ammunition and
his arm from grenade shrapnel. Officials have labeled the Izeh massacre
as a <terrorist> act and attributed it to government opponents. However,
Pirfalak's family refuted the claims, saying that government forces had
fired a barrage of bullets at the family's car. Amnesty International
said that plainclothes security officials used unlawful lethal force
during the protests in Izeh and fatally fired live ammunition at the
child. Authorities subjected Korkur to enforced disappearance, denying
his family about his whereabouts, the group said. While in custody, he
told his family during brief phone calls that <they [authorities] will
kill me,> and said he was in a great deal of pain, including in his
injured knee, and in need of healthcare. He also said he believed his
jailers were forcibly administering chemical substances on him. Korkur's
trial was grossly unfair, with the authorities denying him access to an
independently chosen lawyer, according to Amnesty International. His
torture-tainted <confessions> were aired by state media in December. On
June 22, Korkur's sister was arbitrarily arrested following months of
threats for advocating on his behalf.>>

<<Relatives of Slain Teenager Charged with <Propaganda>
The Iranian judiciary has filed a legal case against the father and
sister of Abolfazl Adinezadeh, a teenage boy who was killed in October
2022 during a crackdown on one of Iran's nationwide protests. Khosro
Alikordi, the lawyer representing the family, said on Twitter on June 27
that Ali and Marzieh Adinezadeh were charged with <propaganda against
the regime.> The case was registered at Branch 903 of the Mashhad
Revolution Prosecutor's Office, he said. The 16-year-old Abolfazl
Adinezadeh was hit by 24 pellets fired by security forces on October 8,
2022, during protests outside Mashhad's Ferdowsi University. His family
has said that he died one hour after being rushed to hospital with
serious injuries. On June 16, just a day before what would have been
Abolfazl's birthday, security forces arrested his sister, father and
uncle near his gravesite. Government forces also conducted a raid on the
village where the Adinezadeh family resides and arrested Abolfazl's
mother, along with a few other relatives. The family members were
granted temporary release from prison on June 20.>>

<<Security Forces Pressure Slain Child's Family and Brand Mother
<Seditious>
Concerns are rising as access to the family of the slain child, Kian
Pirfalak, has become impossible amid mounting pressures from security
forces, and sporadic reports of house arrests, IranWire reveals. The
latest situation began on June 11, what would have been the tenth
birthday of Kian, a young child who lost his life on November 16 of last
year, during nationwide protests. Sources close to Kian's family told
IranWire that Islamic Republic security forces have encircled the
residence of Kian's parents since Sunday, accompanied by the reported
seizure of all household items. Adding to the uncertainty, Kian's uncle
took to Twitter, suggesting that they were being harassed and pressured
by the security forces. But he refuted reports of house arrests and
other reports concerning the family. <The rumors are false: no family
members have faced movement restrictions. We appeal to our fellow
compatriots to refrain from accepting and spreading baseless rumors,>
Kian's uncle said on June 16. Islamic Republic media outlets also
launched a scathing attack on Kian's mother, Mahmonir Molaei, branding
her as <seditious.> The absence of Kian's mother at her son's birthday
gathering, the mystery surrounding her current whereabouts, and the
latest revelation of restricted access to the family have only deepened
concerns regarding the treatment of this grief-stricken family. In the
months following her son's death, Mahmonir Molaei has vehemently
criticized the Islamic Republic and demanded justice for her son's
killers.>>
