<<Surge in Child Arrests in Piranshahr: Five Minors Detained in Two Days
Government forces have recently detained five children, namely Peshawa
Nabi (16 years old), Karzan Nabi (15 years old), Komar Nabi, Farzin Nabi,
and Hedi Yousefi, intensifying concerns about the situation in
Piranshahr. According to reports obtained by the Hengaw Organization for
Human Rights,on Monday, November 20, 2023, the apprehension of
16-year-old Komar Nabi, along with Peshawa Nabi and Karzan Nabi,
occurred in their parental residence in Piranshahr without proper
warrants. Prior to this event, on the night of Sunday, November 19,
2023, 14-year-old Farzin Nabi was taken into custody at his workplace on
Mola Reza St. in the city. Simultaneously, in Piranshahr, another
teenager, Hedi Yousefi (16 years old), was forcefully apprehended at his
residence. These five individuals have been transported to undisclosed
locations. Despite tireless efforts by their families to obtain
information, details regarding the reasons for the arrests, charges
filed against them, or their current status remain unavailable as of
this news release. In line with the Convention on the Rights of the
Child, to which the Iranian Government is a signatory and treats as part
of domestic law under Article 9 of the civil law, detention without
trial is permissible only as a last resort and in cases of necessity.
Article 287 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in the I.R.I.'s domestic
law similarly upholds this principle, emphasizing that children should
be handed over to their parents or legal guardians. Any detention during
preliminary investigations should only occur after a thorough
examination of the necessity of the case.>>

<<Teachers' Union Activists Arrested in Iran to Serve Prison Sentences
Three teachers' union activists have been arrested in Iran to serve
their prison sentences, as the authorities continue their crackdown on
organized labor. The Coordinating Council of Teachers Unions in Iran
reported that Mohammad Ali Zahmatkesh, Afshin Razmjooei and Mojgan
Bagheri were apprehended at their homes on November 20. Zahmatkesh and
Razmjooei were sentenced to five years in prison and Bagheri faces two
years' imprisonment. The council also said that union activist Rasoul
Bodaghi returned to prison after his three-day furlough expired. Bodaghi
was arrested last year and sentenced to a total of five years'
imprisonment for <assembly and conspiracy,> as well as <propaganda
against the system.> The council has condemned what it called <the
systematic case fabrications> against union activists and its members.
Unrest has rattled Iran since last year's summer in response to
declining living standards, wage arrears and a lack of welfare support.
The September 2022 death of Mahsa Amini while in police custody breathed
new life into the protests, which the authorities have tried to quell
with brutal force. More than 500 people were killed by security forces
during demonstrations sparked by Amini's death and over 20,000 people
were unlawfully detained, activists say. Following biased trials, the
judiciary has handed down stiff sentences, including the death penalty,
to protesters. Seven of them have been executed so far.>>

<<New Details Emerge About Iranian Rapper's Mock Execution in Prison
A fellow inmate of Iranian rapper Saman Yassin has given harrowing
details of a mock execution by hanging that the artist was subjected to
in Tehran's Evin prison. Yassin was a vocal critic of the Islamic
Republic before his arrest 14 months ago and supported the
anti-government protests that swept the country last year. In September,
he was transferred from Evin to Ghezalhesar prison in Karaj, near the
capital. Ahmadreza Haeri, a political prisoner also incarcerated in
Ghezalhesar prison, said in a letter dated November 20 that Yassin was
one morning asked by prison officials in Evin whether he wanted to write
his last wills. He was then taken to the gallows in the prison's Ward
240 with his hands tied and his eyes blindfolded, Haeri said. According
to the inmate, one of the officers told a colleague to <bend the rope so
that when he falls, his neck breaks and he does not suffer too much.>
Haeri said the mock execution was aimed at extracting forced
<confessions> from the rapper. Two days later, Yassin received news he
had been handed the death penalty, a sentence that was later overturned
by the Supreme Court. In an audio message released in August, Yassin
spoke about the <physical and mental tortures> inflicted upon him,
including mock execution, beatings and his transfers in a morgue and a
psychiatric hospital. He said he was denied his most basic rights,
including access to legal representation.>>

<<Actress Samadi Barred from Leaving Iran
Iranian actress Azadeh Samadi was at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Airport on
November 20 to catch a flight and attend a film festival in Goa, India,
when her passport was confiscated. Samadi, a versatile actress in film,
theater, and television, was told by Iranian authorities she was not
allowed to leave the country. No reason was given for the travel ban.
Earlier this year, Samadi made headlines when she was detained after
wearing a hat instead of a mandatory head covering while attending a
funeral. The judiciary sentenced her to two months in prison and ordered
her to undergo psychological treatment for her <antisocial illness.>
Samadi's case reflects the increased persecution of actresses since the
eruption of nationwide protests in September 2022. Many actresses and
other celebrities have been arrested and prosecuted for expressing
solidarity with the women-led protest movement.>>

hijab patrols
NCRI - Womens committee - 17 Nov 2023 - in Women's News
<<More Hijab Patrols Recruited in Tehran Metro Stations
Iranian state media have reported an increase in the number of Hijab
patrols in Tehran's metro stations.
On August 6, Iranian media wrote about the recruitment of 400 Hijab
patrols with a monthly salary of 120 million Rials by Tehran's
municipality.
As claimed by regime officials, the duty of these oppressive forces is
to issue verbal warnings and prevent unveiled individuals from entering
the metro, reporting them to the police in case of resistance. Paying
such high salaries to suppressive forces targeting women comes at a time
when, according to the Supreme Labor Council's decision, the minimum
monthly wage for Iranian workers in the current Iranian year of 1402 is
less than 50 million rials. Unprecedented inflation and soaring prices
have placed immense burdens on workers and laborers. Heart-wrenching
scenes of men, women, and children rummaging through garbage bins for
their meager sustenance trouble the conscience of any human being,
except for the ruling mullahs and the criminal authorities who have
abandoned all sense of humanity. In October, Armita Geravand, an
innocent 17-year-old student, lost her life after she was assaulted by
Hijab patrols in a metro wagon in Tehran. The clerical regime's
parliament has adopted a new Hijab and Chastity Bill containing 70
articles that impose draconian restrictions and punishments on women who
defy the compulsory Hijab and the businesses that allow women to do so.
The NCRI Women's Committee calls on all freedom-loving youth to stand
against these oppressive measures targeting noble women and urges
defenders of human and women's rights to condemn these actions under the
pretext of combatting improper veiling. During the 2022 uprising,
Iranian women demonstrated with slogans like <With or without hijab, we
march towards revolution,> proving that attaining gender equality and
minimum women’s rights is contingent upon overthrowing the religious
fascism ruling Iran. As Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the
National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), has declared, <No to
compulsory religion, no to compulsory hijab, and no to compulsory
government.> >>
