<<Roya Zakeri, a Computer Scientist, Is Taken to a Mental
Hospital for Protesting the Mandatory Hijab
Earlier we reported on a young woman in Tabriz who was brutalized
by security forces on Sunday, October 15, 2023, for not covering her
hair. It has been found out that the name of this young woman is Roya
Zakeri. A viral video clip of Ms. Zakeri showed her sitting on the
ground and crying out slogans against the mullahs' supreme leader, Ali
Khamenei. For this reason, security forces beat her so viciously that
she went unconscious. Then, they took Roya Zakeri from among the crowd
by ambulance and transferred her to the women's ward of Razi Hospital in
Tabriz, which is a neurology and psychiatry hospital. Roya Zakeri is
single, 31 years old, and comes from the city of Marand in East
Azerbaijan Province (NW Iran). She has a Master of Science degree in
Computer Sciences and resides in Tabriz. Based on what she explained to
people in a recently published video clip, she had gone on hunger strike
for five days in the custody of security forces last year during the
2022 nationwide uprising. Roya Zakeri, a Computer Scientist, Is Taken to
a Mental Hospital for Protesting the Mandatory Hijab
The last images from Roya Zakeri
Roya Zakeri was arrested in October 2022 in front of Tabriz
University. She remained in detention for an unspecified period. The
Iranian state-run media falsely claimed that Ms. Zakeri had a mental
illness and was experiencing delusions on the street. They said she had
been transferred to medical facilities for treatment. Presently, Roya
Zakeri is held under strict security measures in Razi Hospital. She is
not allowed visits with her family. Intelligence services agents have
warned shop owners and businesses in the neighborhood to refrain from
giving interviews to media outlets.
The clerical regime's security and intelligence services are
playing out the same scenario they did in Tehran for Armita Geravand:
Armita Geravand
preventing the family from visiting their daughter, intimidating
the relatives and eyewitnesses, and warning them against having any
interviews, and controlling the situation before it breaks out into a
protest. The Iranian regime has a record of taking political prisoners
and protesters to mental hospitals and injecting them with drugs that
harm their mental health and well-being. Several protesters, including
Yalda Aghafazli, Maryam Arvin, and Mohabbat Mozaffari, died a short
period after release from prison, allegedly for being injected with
poisonous drugs.>>

<<A young woman in Tabriz is assaulted and forcibly disappeared
Tabriz incident follows two weeks after Armita Geravand was assaulted by
Hijab Guards in Tehran
Exactly two weeks after Armita Geravand was brutalized by Hijab Guards
in a metro station in Tehran, a young woman in Tabriz was badly beaten
by security forces and taken to an undisclosed location. Sunday, October
15, 2023, a young woman in Tabriz was shopping at a pastry shop without
covering her hair. According to social media reports, she was assaulted
and shoved by security forces such that they hurt her leg. A video clip
shows the young woman sitting on the ground, crying, and shouting,
<Death to Khamenei,> and <Death to the Dictator.> Eyewitnesses said
security forces assaulted her again and beat her so much that she went
unconscious. Then, they took him by ambulance to an undisclosed
location. Reports say she has been taken to a mental hospital, others
say she is in the hands of the Department of Intelligence. On the other
hand, Armita Geravand is still in a coma and hospitalized in the ICU at
Tehran's Fajr Hospital. Last Wednesday, it was reported that her vital
signs had deteriorated, but she still has vital signs. She was shoved to
the ground by Hijab Guards in the metro station and suffered a cerebral
hemorrhage, after which she went into a coma and has not come back
since. In the meantime, female students have received similar letters,
warning them that since they did not observe the dress code, security
forces and plainclothes agents roaming on university campuses would deal
with them. At least 20 young women, students of Tehran's Allameh
Tabatabaii University, received similar letters with the university’s
letterhead, but without the letter's date or number. The letters warn
female students that if they did not observe the new dress regulations,
they would experience disruption of their education. On Saturday,
October 14, security patrols roaming on the campus of Amir Kabir
University gave warnings to students, for boys and girls sitting next to
one another, wearing un-Islamic dress, short pants, and unbuttoned
coats, as well as having piercings.>>
