Children deprived of their right to play
Jinha - Womens News Agency - April 2, 2024 - by HADEEL Al-OMAR
<<Children in Idlib’s IDPs camps deprived of their right to play
Displaced children face many challenges due to the overcrowded IDPs camps and the lack of a safe space. Displaced mothers demand a playground be built for their children.
Idlib- Children living in IDPs camps, northern Idlib, have been deprived of their right to leisure, play, and participation in cultural and artistic activities. These children grow up in these camps without having any opportunities due to the war. 29-year-old Salwa Al-Baraami has a five-year-old son named Musab. <Whenever he goes out, I worry about him. I think that bad things will happen to him. I cannot stop him from going outside. He cries when I try to prevent him. I know he wants to go out and play with his friends; however, there is no safe space or playground for children.>
'Our children face all types of injustice'
Children in the camps have the right to play in a safe space and playground to use their imagination, Salwa Al-Baraami said, <However, they face all kinds of violation and marginalization because they are displaced children. Children are deprived of any right to life in the camps. Our children cannot go out and play freely like other children in the world. Our children face all types of injustice.>
'Children are not safe'
32-year-old Najwa Al-Alam thinks that children living in IDPs camps are not safe. <We want our children to feel safe while playing. We demand safe spaces for our children so that they can participate in cultural and artistic activities. Every camp should have a playground for children. Our camps are not suitable for winter and summer. Puddles are formed whenever it rains. I do not allow my children to go out when it rains. We demand at least a playground for children in every camp. Funds should be allocated to build playgrounds in IDPs camps for children.>
Children need safe spaces to forget what they have been experiencing
Play improves the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children, said psychologist Lama Haj Bakr. <Through play, children can express their feelings and learn to cope with emotions such as sadness, anger, and fear. Play is an important element of a child's life and it helps children learn to ask questions, how to communicate and cooperate.>
Pointing out that the camps have no safe spaces and playgrounds for children, Lama Haj Bakr said, <War, living in overcrowded camps, fear and displacement have negative effects on children. Displaced children living IDPs camps need safe spaces to cope with the war, fear and displacement they have been experiencing.> >>

<<The Turkish state is behind the recent increase in the activities of ISIS in the region and the world, Züleyha Abdi said. <We have witnessed what happened since the approval of the Social Contract and the attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, which aim to destroy the stability and security of the region. The re-emergence of ISIS is a policy. ISIS has killed innocent people trying to earn a living. This situation proves that the Damascus government cannot protect the region. Only the SDF fights ISIS now. Partners the coalition must take a serious stance on fighting ISIS.> >>

Aziza Hasso
Jinha - Womens News Agency - April 1, 2024 - by DELAL REMEZAN
<<‘Women's participation in peaceful protests in Sweida is remarkable'
<Women's participation in peaceful protests in Sweida is remarkable,> said Aziza Hasso, manager of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) Women's Office in Hasakah. <Women of Sweida have the strength and will to build a democratic Syria.>
Hasakah- The peaceful protests erupted in the Druze majority city of Sweida over the high inflation rate and deteriorating economic situation in Syria on August 17, 2023 continue. The protesters demand the change of the Syrian government, a political solution to the Syrian crisis and the release of political prisoners. In an interview with NuJINHA, Aziza Hasso, manager of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) Women's Office in Hasakah, evaluated the peaceful protests in Sweida and women's participation in the protests. <The people of Sweida have been holding peaceful protests for eight months. The protests erupted due to the deterioration of the political and economic situation, the rampant corruption and the failure of the government in meeting the demands of the people,> Aziza Hasso said.
'Sweida rises up against injustice and tyranny'
The people of Sweida always rise up against injustice and tranny, Aziza Hasso added. <They rose up against the French and those who aimed to divide the country. During the recent peaceful protests, the people demand a change and an end to marginalization in economy and politics. Women's participation in the ongoing protests is remarkable. One of the most important reasons for the protests that erupted in Sweida is the foreign intervention in the country's affairs. During the protests, people chant slogans supporting the system built by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).>
'They have been a role model'
Women of Sweida participate in the peaceful protests by chanting the 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi' slogan, Aziza Hasso emphasized. <The gains and efforts of women in North and East Syria have become a role model not only in Syria but also all over the world. The system based on democracy is not a separatist system but it is a system based on fraternity and it guarantees the right of self-determination. We support all people demanding democracy, fraternity and their rights. Despite the attacks of the Turkish state and sovereign powers, we have a system based on freedom, equality and democracy in North and East Syria.>
Call on women
Aziza Hasso believes that the system in North and East Syria is the best solution to the Syrian crisis. <One of the most important gains achieved since the beginning of the Syrian crisis is the system built by the AANES. We call on the women of Sweida to grow their struggle so that they can secure their rights. Women should organize and struggle more so that they will have the strength and will to build a democratic Syria.> >>

<<In shadow of war: Yemeni woman makes great efforts to help people
Dalia Mohammed is a Yemeni woman making great efforts to help people in the shadow of war.
Yemen - The ongoing war in Yemen further deepens inequality and discrimination against women and girls. Despite all the challenges, some women become role models with their own stories. Dalia Mohammed is one of them. She inspires many women and girls by working voluntarily to help people. Born in a village, southwest of Taiz, she started working voluntarily for people in her village when she was a child. In 2011, she began to work for humanitarian aid organizations in order to help her society. In 2015, she worked actively for various youth initiatives and groups in the city of Taiz.
She helped the evacuation of 475 people in the line of fire
Dalia Mohammed helped the evacuation of 475 people in the line of fire and provided them temporary and safe spaces. <When I saw that the humanitarian aid organizations had difficulties in reaching those living in the line of fire, I reached them with the support of youth initiatives despite many difficulties and risks,> she told NuJINHA.
She made efforts for children in rural areas
In rural areas of Taiz, children were deprived of education for two years due to ongoing conflict. Daila Mohammed made great efforts to send children to school. She worked in coordination with youth initiatives to rebuild schools destroyed in bombardments, and removed landmines around the schools.
She solved water problems in six villages
Daila Mohammed also solved water problems in six villages of al-Dhabab. <With the help of families, we dug water wells because they did not have access to drinking water. After digging the wells, we installed pipes so that all villagers could benefit from the water wells. Now, the villagers have no water problems and farmers can irrigate their agricultural lands,> said Dalia Mohammed, who formed a health team with young initiatives to provide healthcare services to rural areas. <We do our best to provide healthcare services to all villages but we need more medical supplies.>

Women respond to elections
Jinha - Womens News Agency - April 1, 2024 - SARYA DENIZ
<<Women respond to government in local elections
The people of Amed, which has been governed by appointed mayors for eight years, have responded to the AKP in the local elections held on March 31. The DEM Party has won a majority in Amed.
News Center- People in Turkish and Kurdish cities casted their votes to elect mayors and administrators in local elections on March 31. In Kurdish cities, thousands of voters, especially soldiers and police officers, were brought from different cities by buses to cast their votes. Even some ballot boxes were allocated only for these people. For instance, only one of 120 people casted their votes in a ballot box in Kars was a registered voter. In some cities, some casted votes for other people while some casted votes many times. In some cities, AKP members showed their guns to threaten people. Despite election fraud, voting rights violations and <transported voters>, the Supreme Election Council of Turkey ignored them and announced, <The elections went smoothly>. People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MPs and observers called on people to protect their votes and ballot boxes, emphasizing that there were attempts to implement a different version of appointed mayors in Kurdish cities.
AKP's dream for Amed
Despite the election fraud, the DEM Party has won a majority in Amed (Diyarbakır). Since 2003, the AKP has not won the local elections in Amed. In 2016, the AKP government appointed trustees to the municipalities in Amed, dreaming of winning the next local elections. In 2019 local elections, the AKP's mayoral candidate for Amed was Etimesgut District Governor Cumali Atilla, who was appointed as mayor in Amed in 2016. However, he lost the elections.
It appointed mayors again
In 2019 local elections, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) won 62.93 percent of the votes. Therefore, the elected mayors in Amed were replaced by state-appointed mayors again. Selçuk Mızraklı, Co-mayor of the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, was arrested and he has been behind bars since then.
People respond to Erdoğan in 2024 local elections
Before the 2024 local elections, Erdoğan said, <I want Diyarbakır this time>. The AKP aimed to win municipalities in Amed in order to realize its dream. Despite election fraud, the people of Amed voted for their party, DEM Party, in the local elections.
People of Amed do not give up their will
The people of Amed voted for the DEM Party in 2024 local elections to send back the appointed mayors. The election results in Amed shows that the will of the people in Amed cannot be destroyed despite the appointed mayors and oppression policies.
'We protect our will'
Halide Turkoglu, Spokesperson of DEM Party Women's Council, was in Amed's Hazro district yesterday to observe the election process. Recalling that Amed had been governed by appointed mayors for about eight years, she said, <The aim of the appointed mayors was to usurp the will of people in Amed and its districts. Despite election fraud and transported voters, we protect our will today. We will see the results of this together.>
Women will take back what the appointed mayors usurped
After eight-year of appointed mayors, the will of people and women is reflected in the local elections, Halide Turkoglu said, <This is important for us. The next step is to send the appointed mayors back. People reflected their will in the local elections and decided to send the appointed mayors back. We will reopen the women's centers that were closed down by the appointed mayors. Women casted their votes to protect their gains and reflect their will.> >>
