Dear reader, let us start with the most important and calling for
an even higher awareness of the dangers of the mullahs' regime.
Raheleh Rahemipour
NCRI - Womens committee -1 April 2024 - in Women's News
<<Raheleh Rahemipour, 73, deprived of proper medical treatment and
hospitalization
Despite her physical condition, the political prisoner Raheleh
Rahemipour has been deprived of proper medical care and hospitalization.
Mrs. Rahemipour, 73 years old, suffers from several physical ailments,
including a brain tumor, and needs specialized treatment. However, the
Evin prison officials have prevented her from being sent to medical
centers outside the prison due to her failure to comply with the
mandatory hijab. Recently, Raheleh Rahemipour has been banned from
meeting her family. The political prisoner Raheleh Rahemipour is one of
the families of the prisoners executed in the 1980s. Mrs. Rahemipour has
been trying for years to clarify the truth about the disappearance of
her brother and nephew who were imprisoned in the 1980s. Her brother
Hossein Rahemipour, a dentist, was arrested along with his pregnant wife
in 1983. His daughter Golrou was born in Evin Prison. When she was 15
days old, Golrou was separated from her mother for supposed medical care
and was not returned to her. In April 1984, the authorities informed the
Rahemipour family that Golrou had passed away, without showing them her
death certificate or grave.
Raheleh Rahemipour, Elderly Political Prisoner, denied much needed
medical treatment
Raheleh Rahemipour in Khavaran cemetery, the site of mass graves of
victims of the 1980s.
Raheleh Rahemipour was arrested by the security forces in Tehran on
November 12, 2019, and transferred to the IRGC Intelligence Ward 2A of
Evin Prison and after a while she was temporarily released from prison.
She was accused of <assembly and collusion against national security>
and <propaganda against the state.> Ms. Rahmipour's court hearing was
held on June 17, 2020, at branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court,
and she was eventually sentenced to six years in prison by the said
court. Raheleh Rahemipour was arrested in mid-November 2023 after
appearing in the Evin courthouse and was transferred to Evin prison to
serve her sentence. Mrs. Rahemipour was taken to the hospital in
February last year due to her poor physical condition and was returned
to the prison after two days and cardiac angiography.>>

Sara Tabrizi
Iranwire - 1 April 2024
<<Death of Former Political Prisoner Sparks Concern in Iran
Eight women activists imprisoned in Tehran Evin prison have issued a
statement holding the Islamic Republic responsible for the death of
20-year-old Sara Tabrizi. Tabrizi, a former political prisoner, was
found dead in her father's Tehran home on March 24. The statement,
republished by Narges Mohammadi on Instagram, said that Tabrizi was
<tortured and threatened> in Evin prison following her arrest in
December 2023. It further said she received a summons from the
Intelligence Ministry on Mach 23, just one day before her death.
Tabrizi's body was buried on March 25.
IranWire obtained documents through an interview with a relative,
indicating that Tabrizi had been <under severe pressure from security
agents and interrogators> in recent months. The activists' statement
also confirms many of the reports about Tabrizi that circulated in the
previous week, including mentioning <she was with us for a week [in
prison].> Following the news of Tabrizi's death under suspicious
circumstances, the Iranian judiciary denied issuing any summons to
Tabrizi by security or judicial institutions.>>

Jina Amini -NO-hijab
Iranwire - 1 April 2024
<<As Heat Rises in Iran, Govt Tightens Hijab Law Enforcement
Every spring, as temperatures rise, the Islamic Republic tightens its
repressive laws on women's attire. However, during Nowruz of 2024,
religious and political figures used the Muslim holy month of Ramadan as
a pretext to demand harsher measures against women and girls not wearing
the mandatory hijab. Citing pronouncements by Friday prayer leaders in
various cities, authorities targeted women who opted for non-mandatory
clothing.
In Shiraz, the city's Friday prayer leader criticized the attire of
female tourists, claiming it undermined the city's religious atmosphere.
Lotfollah Dejakam, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's representative in Fars
province, expressed his disapproval of women's clothing at tourist
attractions like the Nasir al-Molk Mosque. He stated his frustration
with government officials and threatened to personally manage the
mosques if the situation didn't improve. He further condemned some
tourist resorts as <centers of debauchery>. Fars province is a popular
tourist destination during Nowruz. For years, the Islamic Republic has
attempted to promote the city's religious aspect for tourism purposes,
downplaying its historical and cultural significance. The publication of
photos showing women without mandatory hijabs in historical mosques
angered Dejakam. Nasser Makarem Shirazi, a prominent radical Shia
cleric, was another religious figure advocating for stricter enforcement
against women choosing not to wear the hijab during Nowruz. He demanded
action from the Qom police chief, alleging that <enemies> were
attempting to tarnish Qom's image by <infecting its youth with drugs and
moral corruption.> Alireza Arafi, Qom's Friday prayer leader, criticized
the growing trend of women defying mandatory hijab. He declared this
form of non-hijab <abnormal and unconventional.> Historically, Qom and
Mashhad have been presented as the Islamic Republic's religious centers.
Religious authorities have strived to control the image projected by
these cities, excluding those who oppose the government's policies.
However, following the nationwide protests of 2022 and the death of
Mahsa Amini in custody, women's civil resistance has spread across Iran,
including Mashhad and Qom, causing concern among religious leaders. The
uncertainty surrounding the <chastity and hijab bill> in recent months
has also fueled criticism from figures like Mashhad's Friday prayer
leader, Ahmad Alamolhoda, Ebrahim Raisi's father-in-law even urged
<religious people> who support compulsory hijab to confront citizens who
oppose it. Ahmad Khatami, a member of the Guardian Council and Tehran
Friday prayer leader, also called on authorities to address the hijab
situation. Meanwhile, a video surfaced on social media showing a clash
between citizens and an official in Isfahan who claimed to have been
beaten for <giving a hijab warning.> Despite the Islamic Republic's
decades-long effort to enforce compulsory hijab, women have consistently
resisted it. Since the summer of 2022, this resistance has become more
public and widespread. The government, in response, has intensified its
efforts to suppress women who oppose mandatory hijab.>>

<<Iran's Rial Hits All-Time Low Against Dollar, Economic Crisis Deepens
The dire economic situation in Iran has reached new heights as the
country's currency hit an all-time low against the US dollar. The
currency's dip comes amid Iran's increasing isolation and a worsening
economic situation triggered by years of sanctions and political
instability. On April 2, the US dollar went past the 630,000-rial mark
for the first time on the open market. In the span of just one month,
the Iranian Rial has depreciated by approximately 14 percent in value.
With the annual inflation rate reaching about 50 percent, Iranians have
been scrambling to convert their savings into hard currencies or gold.
Under the 2015 nuclear deal, most international economic sanctions were
scrapped in exchange for limitations on Tehran's nuclear program, which
helped the currency revive. But former United States President Donald
Trump withdrew from the agreement in 2018 and reimposed harsh economic
sanctions on Iran, prompting Tehran to resume nuclear activities
prohibited by the nuclear pact.>>

<<Two Iranian Students Sentenced to Prison After Protesting School
Poisonings
Hasti Amiri and Zia Nabavi, student activists who protested the mass
poisoning of schoolchildren, were ordered to report to prison to serve
their sentences. Nabavi, a former political prisoner and student
activist, wrote on his account on social media platform X that the duo
would begin their one-year prison sentences on April 6. The activists
were convicted of <propaganda against the Islamic Republic> for
participating in a <rally protesting the serial poisonings.> Since
November 2022, hundreds of girls' schools across Iran have been targeted
by poisoning attacks in what Amnesty International described as <a
campaign that appears to be highly coordinated and organized.> As many
as 13,000 pupils have reportedly suffered symptoms including nausea,
fainting, headaches, coughing, breathing difficulties, and heart
palpitations, with many requiring treatment at hospitals. The attacks
appeared to have targeted girls for their involvement in the nationwide
protests sparked by the September 2022 death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini
in police custody.>>

<<IRGC Commander Killed in Damascus Previously Suppressed Protests in
Iran
Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary
Guard Corps (IRGC) killed in a suspected Israeli airstrike in Damascus
on Monday had previously been involved in quelling anti-establishment
protests in Iran. In December 2023 IranWire obtained several hours of
video footage of joint exercises between the IRGC and the police force
of the Islamic Republic to prepare for potential protests. The footage
dates back to 2016, a year before the eruption of mass protests that
rocked Iran until last year and were brutally repressed by security
forces, leading to the death of hundreds of demonstrators. The videos
shed light on the strategic approach of forces of the Islamic Republic,
the nature of the exercise, and the perspectives of IRGC commanders
toward public demonstrations. A key figure in the exercises was Mohammad
Reza Zahedi. Zahedi was once the commander of the Sarullah camp, and at
the time of the 2016 exercise, he was heading the IRGC forces in Syria
and Lebanon. Zahedi also played a central role in the supply of
Iranian-made missiles to Hezbollah and had been subject to US sanctions
as early as 2010. Previously, he had served as the head of Iran's air
force and ground forces and played a significant role in quelling the
Iranian protests in 2019. The Islamic Republic has confirmed that at
least five advisers of the IRGC were killed in Damascus Monday alongside
Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Zahedi's deputy, General
Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi. Islamic Republic Foreign Ministry Spokesman,
Nasser Kanaani, condemned the attack. Iran, he said, has the right to
retaliate and will determine the appropriate form of response and
<punishment for the aggressor.> The attack, Nasser Kanaani said, is a
<violation of international regulations.> He characterized the attack as
a <violation of international regulations.> <The Islamic Republic of
Iran, while reserving its rights to take countermeasures, decides on the
type of reaction and punishment of the aggressor,> Kanaani said. Iran's
foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, said: <We consider this
aggression to have violated all diplomatic norms and international
treaties.> <Benjamin Netanyahu has completely lost his mental balance
due to the successive failures in Gaza and his failure to achieve his
Zionist goals,> he added.
Iran's ambassador to Syria, Hossein Akbari, said Iran's response for the
strike would be <at the same magnitude and harshness.> >>

<<Tehran Residents Oppose Mosque Construction in Park
On Sizdah Bedar, the last day of the Nowruz celebrations, a group of
Tehran residents gathered in the large Qeytariyeh Park to protest the
planned construction of a mosque. Concerns about the project had been
simmering for weeks but significantly escalated after pictures of
fencing erected around the park's northern area were made public. A
campaign launched online against the project quickly garnered over
40,000 signatures from Tehran residents demanding the preservation of
Qaitariya Park, one of the oldest in the city. In response to the public
outcry, an official from the Tehran Province Cultural Heritage
Department announced the dismantling of the fences. Mohsen Saadati,
deputy director of cultural heritage, confirmed the presence of cultural
heritage protection personnel in the park on March 31. He said the
fences had been removed, and no construction activity had begun.
However, Tehran's mayor's comments regarding the project sparked further
criticism. His claims that only a few saplings would be relocated from
the mosque construction site drew ire from public figures, city
officials, and social media users. Contradicting the official narrative,
public reports say that not only the fences remain in place, but
construction appears to be ongoing.>>

<<Activist in Critical Condition in Tehran Prison as Medical Care Denied
Raheleh Rahemipour, a civil rights activist imprisoned in Tehran's Evin
prison, is in critical condition after being denied access to
specialized medical care for a brain tumor and other serious illnesses,
an activist group reported. According to a close family source who spoke
to the HRANA human rights news agency, the reason for the medical care
denial is Rahemipour's refusal to wear a hijab. Rahemipour, in her 70s,
has also been restricted from family visits, further isolating her
during this critical time. In January, a brief hospitalization for a
cardiac procedure offered her a temporary reprieve, but she was abruptly
returned to prison just two days later. Rahemipour's ordeal began in
November 2019 when she was arrested alongside Jila Karamzadeh Makvandi
in Tehran. She had been prosecuted for speaking out against the
extrajudicial execution of her brother in 1983. Initially held in Ward
2-A of Evin prison, a section controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary
Guard Corps (IRGC), she was later released on bail. However, charges of
<assembly and collusion against national security> and <propaganda
against the Islamic Republic> resulted in a six-year prison sentence
handed down to her by the Tehran Revolutionary Court in November 2023.>>

<<Iran Tightens Restrictions on Tourist Sites on Last Day of Nowruz
Despite denials from the Interior Ministry, reports of tourist
attractions, parks, and gardens closing on Sizdah Bedar, the last day of
Nowruz celebrations, have emerged across Iran. Ruhollah Ravan Shad,
Deputy Director of Tourism for Fars province, officially announced the
closure of historical and cultural sites and museums on April 1. Similar
closures have been reported from Taqbostan in western Kermanshah, Safeh
Forest Park, and Najwan Park in Isfahan. The Islamic Republic often
tightens restrictions during Ramadan, including pressure on businesses
and public spaces to enforce fasting rules. Since Ramadan coincided with
Nowruz this year, these pressures have escalated under the guise of
<Social Security Improvement> plans. Public eating and drinking are
prohibited in Iran during Ramadan daylight hours. Such developments have
raised concerns regarding punishments for <not fasting without a
religious reason>, which can include whipping.>>

Rashad Mohammadi and Ejin Hosseini-Fahmideh
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 1 April 2024
<<Serious Risk of Deportation of Kurdish Couple in Turkey After Forced
Registration of Fingerprints and Signatures
A Kurdish political asylum-seeking couple, Rashad Mohammadi and Ejin
Hosseini (Fahmideh), were detained by security forces in Turkey
approximately 10 days ago. After being transferred to a camp in Aderne,
they were forced to register their fingerprints and signatures, putting
them at serious risk of deportation to Iran. According to a report
received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Rashad Mohammadi,
a political activist from Kamiyaran, along with his wife Ejin Hosseini
from Sarvabad, both cities in Kurdistan province, were transferred from
Chenan Qala camp to Pahlavan Koi camp in Aderne city. The Turkish police
compelled them to register their fingerprints and signatures on Friday,
March 29, raising concerns about their potential deportation to Iran in
the coming days. Ejin Hosseini, aged 30, and Rashad Mohammadi, aged 34,
have been engaged in political activities in the Kurdistan Region of
Iraq for the past few years. They were forced to leave the Kurdistan
Region due to continuous pressure from security institutions, seeking
refuge in a safe country and eventually aiming to reach Europe.
Expressing deep concern about the possibility of the deportation of this
Kurdish couple to Iran and the risk of torture or inhumane punishments
by the security institutions of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Hengaw
Organization for Human Rights demands immediate attention from
international human rights organizations and institutions, particularly
refugee protection agencies.>>

Four Kurdish Kolbars (cross-border porters), identified as Sirwan Tak
from Sanandaj, Saman (last name unspecified), from Marivan, and two
others named Amir and Siamak (last names unspecified), both from Banah,
were targeted directly by the Iranian government forces at the Tata

Saturday, March 30, 2024, Sirwan Tak from Qalaa Sheykhan village in
Sanandaj, two other Kolbars from Banah named Amir and Siamak, and Saman,
a Kolbar from Marivan, were shot and wounded by direct gunfire from

<<Iranian Army's Gunfire, Accidents Kill 27 Baluch Fuel Carriers
At least 27 Baluch fuel carriers have lost their lives over the past 11
days, an activist news website reported. According to a report by the
Haalvsh news website, direct shootings by military personnel during
chases, as well as road accidents, were the leading causes of death.
Many young men in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan -
home to Iran's predominantly ethnic Sunni Baluch minority - resort to
transporting fuel to Pakistan to make a living. These people are called
fuel carriers or 'sookhtbar' in Persian. However, the government refers
to them as <smugglers> and treats them no better than terrorists. Dozens
of fuel carriers are fatally shot or injured by Iranian security forces
every year. At least 172 fuel carriers lost their lives last year,
according to activists.>>
