<<Jailed Iranian Activist Slams Khamenei's Policies Ahead of Elections
Mostafa Tajzadeh, a prominent Iranian political prisoner, has said that
Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei <lacks the tact necessary to steer the
country toward comprehensive, equitable and sustainable development.> In
a letter published on his Telegram channel on February 18, Tajzadeh
accused Khamenei of neglecting Iran's pressing issues and rendering the
electoral process meaningless. Khamenei, who has the last say on all
matters in Iran, has withheld <the contributions of capable individuals>
and hindered <essential structural reform,> said Tajzadeh, a reformist
political activist who has been repeatedly arrested since 2009 and
subjected to harsh sentences. In September 2022, the activist was
sentenced to five years in prison on charges including <collusion
against national security,> <spreading falsehoods> and <propaganda
against the Islamic Republic.>
He is incarcerated in Tehran's Evin prison.
The imprisoned activist decried the stifling of dissent and obstruction
of necessary reforms, arguing that genuine progress requires political
foresight and moral courage, qualities Tajzadeh believes Khamenei sorely
lacks. The leader's policies have <systematically weakened elected
bodies like parliament, rendering them incapable of instigating
substantive change,> he said, adding that Khamenei has also imposed
stringent restrictions on individual freedoms and access to the
internet. Tajzadeh warned that these limitations could impede Iran's
integration with the international community and jeopardize its economic
prosperity. The activist concluded by asserting that a significant
portion of the Iranian population has opted not to participate in the
parliamentary elections on March 1. He suggested that many citizens have
lost faith in the prospect of reform within the existing political
system and are resorting to peaceful forms of resistance to voice their
discontent. Khamenei recently delivered a speech urging Iranians to
actively engage in the electoral process. He hailed elections as the
<main pillar of the Islamic Republic system> and the most effective
means to tackle the nation's challenges.>>

Ebrahim Hamidi, said that the gunman opened fire on his father, brother,
sister-in-law and other relatives on February 17 because of a <family

<<Iranian Kurdish Lawyer Starts Serving Prison Term
Kurdish lawyer Khosro Alikordi has been arrested and transferred to
Vakilabad prison to start serving a one-year sentence, according to the
human rights group Hengaw. Alikordi was summoned by the Mashhad
Revolutionary and Public Prosecution Office on February 17 and
subsequently arrested.
The First Branch of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court sentenced the lawyer
to one year in prison and two years in exile for defending political
prisoners and families of victims of the bloody crackdown on the 2022-23
nationwide protests. Last month, two United Nations experts denounced
the <enormous obstacles and pressures> faced by Iranian lawyers who
provided, or attempted to provide, legal support to protesters. At least
66 lawyers have been arrested and detained since nationwide protests
erupted in September 2022, <apparently in an attempt to both intimidate
them and to prevent them from representing protestors,> the experts said
in a statement. Eleven of these lawyers have been sentenced and 47 have
been released pending trial, they said, adding that many others were
targeted with intimidation, harassment and disbarment.>>

<<US Issues $15 Million Bounty on Iranian Hacker
The United States is offering up to $10 million for information
regarding an Iranian hacker alleged to be involved in a <coordinated,
multi-year> cyber campaign that targeted more than 12 US companies, as
well as the departments of State and the Treasury. From about 2016
through April 2021, Alireza Shafie Nasab <worked for Iran-based Mahak
Rayan Afraz, a front company operating on behalf of Iran's Islamic
Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist
Organization and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity,> the US
Department of State's Rewards for Justice program said in a statement.
Hackers affiliated with the Islamic Republic have repeatedly carried out
cyber attacks against the United States and its allies over the past
years. Last week, Microsoft said that the islamic Republic and other US
adversaries, including North Korea, Russia and China, are beginning to
use its generative artificial intelligence to mount or organize
offensive cyber operations. The technology giant and business partner
OpenAI jointly detected and disrupted the malicious cyber actors' use of
their AI technologies - shutting down their accounts.
In a blog post, Microsoft said that the IRGC has used large-language
models to assist in social engineering, in troubleshooting software
errors, and in studying how intruders might evade detection in a
compromised network. That includes generating phishing emails, including
<one pretending to come from an international development agency and
another attempting to lure prominent feminists to an attacker-built
website on feminism.> >>

Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 18 Feb 2024
<<Iranian Authorities Detain Four Kurdish Individuals Following Release
of Video Clip
Over the past few days, following the circulation of a video clip
produced by Kurdish artist Ali Karimi in North Khorasan, at least four
individuals involved in its creation have been arrested, with others
summoned for questioning. According to a report obtained by the Hengaw
Organization for Human Rights, following the release of a Kurdish music
video titled <Wilat (Homeland)> by artist Ali Karimi in North Khorasan
province, at least four individuals associated with the production have
been arrested. Additionally, Taghizadeh Studio in Esfarayen city, where
the video was produced, has been sealed by Iranian security forces. On
Saturday, February 11, 2024, sound engineer and studio manager Hasan
Taghizadeh, producer Ali Delfaraz, production manager Hossein Firouzeh,
and camera operator Jalal Barat Zadeh from Bojnurd were all taken into
custody after being summoned by local intelligence departments. Reliable
sources have also reported verbal threats issued by security departments
to Kurdish researcher Kaleem Allah Tawahodi, poet Alireza Sepahi Lauren,
and artists Roya Esmaielian and Asmar Hamidi from Quchan, Shirvan, and
Samalqan, respectively. As of now, Kurdish artist Ali Karimi has
declined to attend security department summonses. Video footage obtained
by Hengaw shows that Taghizadeh Studio in Esfarayen has been sealed by
security forces until further notice. It is worth noting that the
detained individuals have been temporarily released on written
recognizance. Previously, Hengaw reported summonses issued to Kurdish
social activists and artists, including Ali Karimi, in the North and
Razavi Khorasan provinces, with intimidation warnings against the use of
Kurdish clothing and customs.>>

<<Arghavan Fallahi and Parvin Mirasan detained in limbo after 15 months
Three political prisoners affiliated with the PMOI, namely Arghavan
Fallahi, Parvin Mirasan, and Nasim Gholami Simiyari, are currently
detained in a state of limbo at the women's ward of Evin Prison.
Arghavan Fallahi and Parvin Mirasan have been detained in limbo for 15
months since their arrest. They were apprehended along with Arghavan
Fallahi's father and brother by security forces on November 4, 2022,
during protests in Isfahan, central Iran. Arghavan Fallahi is facing
charges of disseminating <propaganda against the state,> <committing
crimes against internal and external security,> and <being a member of
opposition groups.>. Parvin Mirasan, aged 66, shares a joint case with
Arghavan Fallahi, her father, and brother. She suffers from diabetes,
Parkinson's disease, joint conditions, and neurological disorders, yet
she has been deprived of proper medical care and treatment until now.
Parvin Mirasan was arrested during the protests in Isfahan on November
4, 2022. She was initially confined in a solitary cell for 28 days
before being transferred to Adelabad Prison in Shiraz. After some time,
she was relocated to the women's ward of Evin Prison. In December 2023,
she was arraigned at the Evin courthouse on the charge of <Bagh-ye,> or
armed insurgency, a charge that can result in severe punishments
including execution, crucifixion, amputation of the right hand and left
foot, or internal exile. Nasim Gholami Simiyari, aged 35, was arrested
in mid-May 2023 on charges of collaboration with one of the opposition
groups in Tehran. In November, she began a hunger strike to protest the
authorities' failure to examine her case. After two weeks, the
authorities promised to address her demand, leading her to end her

<<15 Months Since Osman Mameh's Forced Disappearance: Family Struggles
Without Breadwinner
Today marks 455 days since the forcibly disappearance of Osman Mameh, a
resident of Bukan during the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi movement. Despite appeals
to various institutions within the judicial, security, and regulatory
structures of the Islamic Republic of Iran, no response has been
forthcoming. His family, grappling with the absence of their
breadwinner, faces significant financial, emotional, and health
challenges. According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization
for Human Rights, 56-year-old Osman Mameh from Bukan has been missing
for one year and three months. His family has received no information
about his whereabouts, despite their relentless efforts to seek answers.
During this period, Osman Mameh's wife has approached the governorship
of Bukan, the local intelligence department, and even the extra-legal
institution associated with the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran,
known as <Beite Rahbar,> either alone or with her children. However, all
these institutions have refused to provide any information. Hengaw's
investigation revealed that some of Osman Mameh's family members and
close relatives have been warned by security agencies against pursuing
his legal status. The financial burden resulting from Osman Mame's
disappearance has caused significant hardship for his family, as he was
the primary breadwinner. Additionally, Osman Mameh's wife suffers from
migraines, the eldest child has heart problems, and the younger child is
dealing with severe depression. To date, Osman Mameh has had no contact
with his family, and no documentation has been provided since his
abduction. Prior to his forced disappearance, Osman Mameh was an
employee at a poultry farm in the city of Dukan, located in the
Kurdistan region of Iraq. Osman Mameh, a resident of Bukan, was forcibly
disappeared by government forces on the evening of Friday, November 18,
2022. His custodial status remains unknown. Enforced disappearance, a
crime against humanity, entails the arrest and concealment of an
individual by governmental or political entities with no disclosure of
their fate or location to their families or society. This tactic is
frequently employed to instigate fear, terror, or as a means to silence
and penalize political adversaries. Enforced disappearance constitutes a
severe violation of human rights, inflicting profound suffering and
uncertainty upon the families and acquaintances of the victims, leaving
them in a state of distress and ambiguity. Referring to Article 2 of the
Convention for the Protection of All Individuals from Enforced
Disappearance, Hengaw is holding the Iranian government accountable for
forcibly disappearing Osman Mameh and demanding accountability from the
Islamic Republic, urging immediate access to legal services, lawyers,
communications with his family, and healthcare for Osman Mameh.>>

Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 16 Feb 2024
<<Two Female Activists Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Alleged

NCRI - Womens committee -16 Feb 2024 - in Women's News
<<Hajar Atabaki was hanged in the Central Prison of Qazvin
On the morning of January 20, 2024, the clerical regime hanged a woman,
Hajar Atabaki, in the Central Prison of Qazvin. Hajar Atabaki was 41
years old from Tabriz. She was the only guardian of her child. Hajar
Atabaki was arrested two and a half years ago on drug related charges
and sentenced to death. The clerical regime executed her in silence
without any media reporting. Hajar Atabaki is the second woman reported
to be executed in Iran in 2024. The clerical regime executed at least 26
women in 2023, and 231 women since 2007.
Record holder of executions of women
The Iranian regime is the world's top record holder of executions of
women.
No government in the world has executed so many women. The list does not
account for the tens of thousands of women executed in Iran on political
grounds. The NCRI Women's Committee previously mentioned that many of
the women executed by the mullahs' regime are themselves victims of
domestic violence against women and have acted in self-defense. An
average of 15 women were executed every year under the former government
in Iran. However, this year, 26 women have been executed under Raisi
government which is 11 more than the previous average. The NCRI Women's
Committee calls on the United Nations, the European Union, and other
relevant international organizations to take urgent action to save the
lives of those on death row and stop the use of death penalty in Iran.>>
