<<FBI Issues Alert for Iranian Agent Accused of Plotting Assassinations
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is seeking Majid Dastjani
Farahani, a 41-year-old Iranian national and intelligence agent, accused
of orchestrating assassination plots against US officials. <Majid
Dastjani Farahani, an Iranian intelligence officer, is wanted for
questioning in connection with the recruitment of individuals for
various operations in the United States, to include lethal targeting of
current and former United States Government officials as revenge for the
killing of IRGC-QF Commander Qasem Soleimani,> it said in a report on
March 5.
Soleimani was killed in 2020 in Baghdad by an American airstrike.
He was commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) Quds
Force - an expeditionary force Iran uses for military actions across the
region. The FBI released Farahani's picture and details, accusing him of
plotting to murder former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Brian Hook,
a former U.S. special envoy to Iran. American officials believe both
individuals are on the Islamic Republic's target list and are currently
under permanent FBI protection. The FBI said Farahani frequently travels
between Iran and Venezuela and speaks English, Spanish, and French in
addition to Persian. According to their report, Farahani recruited
individuals to surveil religious institutions, businesses, and other
facilities in the United States. The agency suspects Farahani's
activities were carried out on behalf of the Iranian Ministry of
Intelligence.>>

<<Former Political Prisoner Among Asylum Seekers Detained En Route to
Italy
Milad Arsanjani, a former political prisoner, was apprehended along with
nearly a hundred other asylum seekers in Greek waters, IranWire reports.
<We were en route from Greece to Italy when they arrested us,> he said
in a video message sent to IranWire. <They are now taking us back to
Türkiye. There is a possibility that many would get deported back to
Iran. Most are former political prisoners,> he added. According to him,
over 60 of the 98 passengers on the ship departing Greece for Italy were
politically active Iranians. The deportation of asylum seekers,
refugees, and political and civil activists living in Turkiye to Iran
has seen a worrisome surge in recent years. United Nations refugee
officials have also reduced their activities and now defer the handling
of refugees to the Turkish government. Previously, the Turkish
government deported political activist Shahryar Baratinya to Iran,
leading to his imprisonment in Evin Prison since August 3, 2023,
following his deportation.>>

<<Earthquake Strikes Flood-Hit Sistan and Baluchistan
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday struck Iran's Sistan and
Baluchistan province, which has already been hit by severe floods.
According to Hassan Masafa, deputy of the Sistan and Baluchistan Red
Crescent Relief and Rescue, the earthquake's depth of 80 kilometers
prevented any reported damage in Fanuj district. However, the US
Seismological Center recorded a slightly lower magnitude of 5.4 and a
shallower depth of 35 kilometers. The quake comes amidst a challenging
week for the region, which has been grappling with floods. The
meteorological organization has issued an orange warning, anticipating a
new rainfall system impacting the southern and southwestern parts of the
province.
Local authorities report that 1,947 villages have been affected by the
floods.
Despite official promises and reports, local Baluch sources say that
houses remain flooded, roads blocked, and some villages still lack water
and electricity.>>

<<11 University Students Suspended in Tehran for Attending Party
Eleven students from Tehran University of Science and Technology were
suspended by the university's disciplinary committee for participating
in a private party that included both men and women. According to HRANA
human rights activists news agency, some students were summoned by the
Morality Police and pressured during disciplinary meetings to write
statements in line with the university's expectations. <They heavily
pressured us to write what they wanted. I don't understand why they
printed large, colored copies of our group photos,> one student
recalled. The suspensions underscore concerns about the pressure and
limitations placed on student freedoms in Iran. Besides university
disciplinary actions, the report by the union councils of the country's
students reveals legal repercussions faced by some students involved in
protests. Recently, Khabat Veisi, a student from the Kurdish town of
Marivan was arrested on March 4 to serve a 15-month sentence and is
currently imprisoned in Marivan's central prison.
Shyida Saberi, a film student at Shiraz University, announced on
Instagram that she is being charged with <disturbing public order and
holding an illegal assembly> for carrying a banner with the slogan
Woman, Life, Freedom, during protests. This comes following Saberi's
previous detention for 12 days before the first anniversary of Mahsa
Amini's death. The death of 22-year-old Amini in Iranian police custody
in 2022 sparked widespread protests and led to the emergence of the
Woman, Life, Freedom movement.>>

<<Iranian Authorities Stopped Top Sunni Cleric's Trip to Flood-Hit
Region
Iranian authorities on Monday stopped a vehicle carrying Iran's top
Sunni cleric, Molavi Abdulhamid, preventing him from reaching
flood-stricken areas in Sistan and Baluchistan province. Molavi, the
Friday prayer leader of the restive city of Zahedan, was reportedly
travelling with his companions when security forces stopped their convoy
at a police station along the Zahedan-Khash road. The security forces
detained his two teenage sons, who were travelling with him. In protest,
the cleric refused to leave the location until his children were
released, according to a report by the Haalvash news site. The Baluch
Activists Campaign condemned the incident and reported that people from
Zahedan had started to gather near the police station on Monday
afternoon in protest. The incident took place after Molavi criticized
the government's response to the recent flooding in Sistan and
Baluchistan that has affected over 110,000, leaving them either
displaced or in dire circumstances. He has urged the public to assist
those affected.
Due to heavy rainfall and flooding, several hundred villages in the
province are still inundated. The flooding has severely impacted farms,
mud houses, rural roads, and local infrastructure, resulting in the
closure of roads and isolating the villages from the nearby cities and
each other.
Due to the flooded roads, broken bridges, and washed-out pathways, only
air assistance is presently feasible. The majority of people living in
the Sistan and Baluchistan Province in southeastern Iran are Sunni
Muslims, whereas Shi'a Muslims comprise the majority of the population
across the country.>>

Iranwire - 4 March 2024 - MARYAM DEHKORDI
<<Closing Ceremony of Koocheh Music Festival Canceled Amid Pressure
The highly anticipated closing ceremony of the Koocheh Music Festival,
held in southern Bushehr from February 21 to 26, was unexpectedly
canceled due to alleged pressure from security institutions. Despite
having permission, the closing ceremony was not allowed to proceed. The
organizers announced the cancellation of the event without specifying a
reason for it. <In reality, we have persevered, though it seems we
stumbled at the final step,> the organizers said. <Tickets for the two
shows scheduled on the last day will be refunded,> they added. The
Koocheh Music Festival returned for its third edition this year after a
four-year hiatus due to various reasons. Founded by writer Ehsan
Abdipour and his brother Idris Abdipour, the festival debuted in
February 2017. The concept for the festival came from Ehsan Abdipour, a
local writer and screenwriter from Bushehr, who envisioned uniting
artists from across Iran to celebrate shared cultural roots and promote
ethnic music. The festival focuses on strengthening the connection
between people and regional songs. Musician Mohsen Sharifian, who was
scheduled to perform alongside Ecuadorian musician Leo Rojas, expressed
his disappointment over the cancellation of the closing ceremony,
lamenting the missed opportunity for Bushehr's residents to appreciate
art. He also mentioned other groups and artists who were unable to
perform at the festival. In the days leading up to the festival's
conclusion, reports emerged of a ban on outdoor music performances, with
some journalists attributing it to the <intolerance of certain
individuals.> The festival has also received criticism over its
treatment of women. A woman living in Bushehr, who had previously
attended the festival, chose not to participate this year due to what
she perceived as the organizers' neglect of women's struggles. In an
interview with IranWire, she expressed her belief in the organizers'
dedication to the region's culture, describing them as <honorable>
individuals. However, she criticized the festival for its behavior
towards women and labelled it a <predominantly male-centric event.>
According to her, women attending the event were obliged to adhere to
mandatory hijab regulations, a practice she found to be discriminatory.
She noted that women were conspicuously absent from official music
performances and side programs, questioning the rationale behind
participating in an event that imposed restrictions on women. Reflecting
on her past experiences at the festival, she highlighted instances where
consultations with local authorities were prioritized while women's
concerns were sidelined.>>

<<Iranian Border Forces Shoot Another Kurdish Kolbar as Attacks Rise
Iranian border forces in the western Kurdistan province have fatally
shot another Kurdish kolbar amid an escalation of violence against the
transborder porters. The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights identified
the victim as 52-year-old Ali Zarghami, a resident of Saqqez. Zarghami
was lethally wounded in the stomach on March 3 at the Mishiav border in
the Sarshio area of Saqqez, Kurdistan province. Kolbars are porters who
transport goods on foot across Iran's borders, covering long distances,
especially in the impoverished, mountainous Kurdish regions near Iraq.
According to the Kolbar News website, as many as 85 kolbars lost their
lives while transporting goods in the western provinces of West
Azerbaijan, Kurdistan and Kermanshah between March and September 2023.
The causes of their deaths include direct military fire, blizzards,

<<Iranian Teacher Arrested for <Illegal Gathering> at Mahsa Amini's
Grave
Authorities in the Islamic Republic have arrested Soleiman Abdi, a
teacher and member of the Iranian Teachers' Union branch in the Kurdish
town of Saqqez. The charges against him include <disrupting public order
and peace by participating in an illegal gathering in Aichi cemetery,>
where Mahsa Amini's grave is located. Amini emerged as the face of the
Woman, Life, Freedom movement after the 22-year-old Kurd died in the
custody of the country's morality police in September 2022. The presence
of her grave at the Aichi cemetery in Saqqez has turned it into a site
for anti-establishment protests. The Iranian Teachers' Union announced
Abdi's arrest on March 3. According to the union's Telegram channel,
Abdi was summoned to serve his prison sentence and arrested before being
transferred to Saqqez Central Prison in the Kurdistan Province. Abdi was
previously sentenced to eight months in prison and 70 lashes by the
105th branch of the Saqqez Criminal Court in July 2023. He was arrested
in late 2022, detained in Sanandaj, and then transferred to Saqqez
Central Prison in April 2023. Abdi was temporarily released on bail

(Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement, is sentenced to three years and eight
months of imprisonment and complementary punishment. According to the
law of consolidation of sentences, the severe punishment of three years
of penal imprisonment is fully applicable to this artist. As a
complementary punishment, Hajipour has been sentenced to summarize and
publish two books on political Islam and Islamic women's rights on his
social media accounts. This individual has also been sentenced to
compose and release music tracks on <the USA crimes against humanity>
and <the USA human rights violations in the past century> on social

project that has been repeatedly executed but brings nothing to the city

Zeinab Ghahhari (Mother Merrikhi)
NCRI - Womens committee -2 March 2024 - in The Fallen for Freedom
<<Zeinab Ghahhari (Mother Merrikhi)
Zeinab Ghahhari was constantly harassed because of her support for the
PMOI/MEK. Zeinab Ghahhari, known as Mother Merrikhi, passed away in the
northern city of Qaemshahr, Mazandaran province, in mid-February 2024.
Zeinab Qahhari was born in 1941. She was the mother of Zahra Merrikhi,
the Secretary General of the opposition People's Mojahedin Organization
of Iran (PMOI), and the fallen PMOI member, Ali Merrikhi Ahangari. Under
the Shah's regime, she was repeatedly summoned by the Shah's secret
police, SAVAK, and interrogated because of her husband's political
activities.
She was active and well-known in the anti-Shah demonstrations in
Qaemshahr during the 1979 Revolution. In the early years of the 1979
revolution, when political activities were still not completely banned
by the clerical regime, her Qaemshahr home was used as a headquarters by
the PMOI for their anti-regime activities. For this reason, her home was
constantly attacked and invaded by the regime's agents.
Zeinab Ghahhari and her son, Ali (left), and daughter Zahra (right)
In later years, when Khomeini was the regime's Supreme Leader, she was
known for her unwavering support of the PMOI in Qaemshahr. She
encouraged her son Ali to join the PMOI's ranks. Her brother-in-law,
Colonel Khodaverdi Panahi, was killed during the 1988 massacre of PMOI
political prisoners in Qaemshahr. She was harassed, arrested and
tortured for some time because of her secret trips abroad and to Iraq,
where the PMOI were stationed. This brave woman, who was role model for
women and girls in Qaemshahr, finally passed away in mid-February 2024,
after 45 years of perseverance in her support for the PMOI.>>
