Toomaj Salehi
Iranwire - 25 April 2024 - ROGHAYEH REZAEI
<<Outrage Mounts as Iran Sentences Rapper Toomaj Salehi to Death
The death sentence handed down to protest rapper Toomaj Salehi
has sparked a wave of grief and determination among his fans and fellow
citizens, who view him as a powerful voice for their cause. Amir Raisian,
his lawyer, said the verdict is riddled with <obvious legal
contradictions> and <strangeness.> The Revolutionary Court of Isfahan,
which issued this verdict, disregarded the previous decision of the
country's highest judicial authority. The Supreme Court had rejected
accusations of <corruption on Earth> against Salehi. However, the
Isfahan court considered the top court's stance only as <guidance> and
stressed the <independence> of lower courts. Despite this, the court
proceeded to sentence the singer, popular among the young generation, to
death. The reaction to Salehi's death sentence has been a mix of anger,
sadness, and unwavering determination.
Civil activists, social media users, and citizens alike have
voiced their opposition to this decision. Before the official
announcement, reactions had already begun circulating when a
government-affiliated news site first reported his sentencing. Since
then, a groundswell of support has emerged, with many declaring Salehi
as the voice of the Iranian people and vowing to amplify his message.
Even the US Special Envoy for Iran condemned the sentencing, saying on
X: <We strongly condemn Toomaj Salehi's death sentence and the five-year
sentence for Kurdish-Iranian rapper Saman Yasin. We call for their
immediate release. These are the latest examples of the regime's brutal
abuse of its own citizens, disregard for human rights, and fear of the
democratic change the Iranian people seek.> Prominent figures in the
activism and human rights community Iranhave also spoken out against the
sentence.

Mehdi Yarrahi 'Soroode zendegi' (Live's anthem)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr3d5PgWqRU
Mehdi Yerrahi, a fellow protest singer who himself faced
imprisonment, condemned the verdict as a farce and demanded Salehi's
unconditional release. Similarly, human rights activists Atena Daemi and
Hossein Ronaghi, who have previously faced prison for their work,
criticized the government's actions as an assault on people's rights and
freedoms. Daemi said, <From the perspective of the Islamic Republic, the
act of supporting all segments of society is construed as corruption on
earth. Issuing a death sentence for the beloved artist Toomaj Salehi
means declaring a war on the people.> Ronaghi said, <Announcing the
imposition of such a severe sentence on Toomaj Salehi signals a
breakdown in the government's structure.> <If Toomaj is to receive such
a severe punishment based on unfounded reasons and through a process
that contradicts its own laws, then the execution implicates us all,> he
added. Amirsalar Davoudi, a human rights defender and lawyer imprisoned
in Evin prison, in a letter, condemned the death sentence. In the
letter, obtained by IranWire, Davoudi urged the Supreme Court judges to
<resign in order to preserve their legal and judicial rights.> He also
highlighted the concerning trend within Iran's judiciary, where lower
branches persist in implementing decisions contrary to those of the
Supreme Court. Salehi's supporters in Isfahan and Tehran remain
steadfast in their determination to fight for his freedom. They recall
his commitment to being the voice of the marginalized and vow to
continue his legacy of resistance through whatever means necessary. For
many, Salehi's music has been a source of solace and empowerment,
particularly for women. His artistry and courage in speaking out against
injustices have earned him admiration and respect. Despite the dark
cloud of his impending execution, his supporters refuse to lose hope,
seeing his plight as emblematic of a broader struggle for justice and
freedom in Iran. On Wednesday, Amir Raisian, one of Salehi's lawyers,
confirmed to the Shargh newspaper the death sentence issued to the
artist by Branch 1 of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court. Before this
confirmation, from Dastgerd prison in Isfahan, Salehi purportedly posted
a message on the social media platform X hinting at the verdict without
disclosing details. He expressed concern for his fans' psychological
well-being, especially considering their young age and health. Salehi
was initially arrested in October 2022 after voicing support for the
nationwide Woman, Life, Freedom protests that had erupted in September
of that year. He released songs criticizing the government and
supporting the protests demanding more freedoms and women's rights. He
also posted pictures and videos of himself during the demonstrations. In
July 2023, a court sentenced the artist to six years and three months in
prison for <corruption on Earth.> He was released on bail on November 18
last year after the Supreme Court, responding to an appeal, found <flaws
in the original sentence> and returned the case to a lower court for
reexamination and possible retrial. Salehi was returned to jail less
than two weeks later to face new charges after publicly discussing his
torture in prison in a video. Amir Raisian explained to Shargh that the
Isfahan Revolutionary Court considered charges such as <aiding sedition,
assembly, collusion, anti-Islamic Republic propaganda, and inciting
chaos as examples of corruption on Earth,> leading to the issuance of
the death sentence for Salehi. Notably, this branch had previously
refrained from confirming the severity of the <corruption on Earth>
charge. Moussa Berzin, a lawyer and legal advisor to IranWire,
characterized the rejection of the Supreme Court's decision by the lower
court as a <rare> and <innovative> move by the judiciary of the Islamic
Republic of Iran. He expressed concern over the judiciary's handling of
Salehi's case, highlighting the addition of new charges and the
imposition of the death penalty. According to Berzin, during the
protests, Salehi faced various accusations, including <corruption on
Earth,> for which the initial Isfahan court sentenced him to six years
and three months in prison, along with additional penalties such as a
ban on artistic activities. However, upon appeal to the Supreme Court,
the charges were deemed unfounded, and the sentence was recommended for
reduction. Article 286 of Iranian penal law outlines severe penalties
for offenses against public order, security, and integrity, including
actions leading to widespread corruption or prostitution. Berzin
criticized the lower court's decision to defy the Supreme Court's
guidance and issue a harsher sentence, stressing the need for logical
justification and proper investigation of the new charges. Moreover,
Berzin highlighted the lack of substantive evidence connecting Salehi's
actions to the alleged crimes, particularly regarding his involvement in
peaceful demonstrations. He argued against the notion that Salehi's
calls for protests directly caused disturbances, emphasizing the absence
of a clear causal relationship in this regard. Addressing violations of
Salehi's rights, Berzin condemned his prolonged solitary confinement,
extensive interrogation without legal representation, and coercion
tactics employed to extract confessions.>>

<<Narges Mohammadi Condemns Death Sentence of Iranian Rapper
Toomaj Salehi
Narges Mohammadi, the imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has
condemned the death sentence of protest rapper Toomaj Salehi. <Toomaj's
death sentence signifies the death of our vibrant movement. Let us rally
for the survival of the movement that defines our existence,> she said
in a message from Evin prison. Mohammadi's statement, posted on her
official Instagram page, adds: <The resilient, united hands of the
Iranians will not permit the raising of Toomaj Salehi's gallows.
Dismantle the death sentence and the noose before they are torn apart by
the outcry of the Iranian people.> From her confines in Evin prison,
this prominent dissident further asserted: <Toomaj Salehi epitomizes the
resounding voice of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement and its anthem.>
<His execution would signify the death of our vibrant movement. Let us
unite in defence of our movement, which is our essence. Let us all rise
together. Our defiance is against Toomaj's execution; our defiance is
for breaking chains, for life, for freedom,> she said. Mohammadi
condemned the <vengeful, cowardly, and barbaric executions> as a <blight
upon the dark and putrid robe of the authoritarian religious
government,> and implored, <Let us not allow the blood of another young
soul to stain the purity of our homeland. We have the power to prevent
it. We can.> A Revolutionary Court in central Isfahan sentenced Iranian
rapper Toomaj Salehi to death on Wednesday. Salehi was initially
arrested in October 2022 after voicing support for the nationwide Woman,
Life, Freedom protests that had erupted the previous month.
He released songs criticizing the government and supporting the

Samereh Mokhtarpour
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 25 April 2024
<<Femicide: Young Woman Fatally Assaulted by Spouse in Urmia, Iran
In the early days of this spring, Samereh Mokhtarpour, a young woman
hailing from Salmas and residing in Urmia (West Azerbaijan), fell victim
to domestic violence, tragically losing her life at the hands of her
husband. Her body was discovered along the Urmia-Mahabad road. As per
reports obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on March
31, 2024, at approximately 7 AM, 38-year-old Samereh Mokhtarpour, a
resident of Urmia originally from Salmas, was fatally assaulted by her
husband, with her body later found near the Mahabad road. Earlier in
April 2024, local sources reported the discovery of a woman’s body
approximately 11 kilometers from Mahabad. Informed sources revealed that
Samereh Mokhtarpour, a law graduate and mother to a young daughter, had
been enduring relentless physical and verbal abuse at the hands of her
husband. The perpetrator, identified as Bahman Meighani, confessed
following his apprehension that during a heated argument, he first
rendered the victim unconscious with repeated blows to her head and neck
before ultimately strangling her with a shawl.>>

<<Iranian Parliament Names Sistan and Baluchistan as Most
Deprived Region
A new report by the Iranian Parliament's Research Center has
named Sistan and Baluchistan province as the most deprived region in the
country <by a significant margin.> The report defines deprivation as
<limited access to basic necessities like healthcare, education, roads,
energy, clean water, and sanitation.> This lack of development fuels
discontent. Since 2022, coinciding with nationwide protests, Sistan and
Baluchistan has become a center for demonstrations against
discrimination and underdevelopment. Residents take to the streets each
Friday to demand solutions to poverty, unemployment, food insecurity,
frequent power and water outages, and declining purchasing power.
The deprivation persists despite the province's rich resources.
For over four decades, Sistan and Baluchistan has lacked proper
infrastructure, leaving many, particularly in the south, without access
to clean drinking water and natural gas. Moienuddin Saeedi, a
representative from Chabahar, emphasizes this point: <There isn't a
meter of gas pipeline anywhere in the cities and villages.> Critics of
the Iranian government say that the severe poverty in Sistan and
Baluchistan is a deliberate strategy to maintain control. Zahedan is the
capital of Sistan and Baluchistan province, which is home to Iran's
Sunni Baluch minority of up to 2 million people. The restive city has
seen protest rallies almost every Friday since September 30, 2022, when
security forces killed nearly 100 people in the deadliest incident in
the nationwide demonstrations.>>

<<Jailed Iranian Protester at Risk of Imminent Execution: Legal
Group
The Dadban legal group has issued a grave warning regarding the
imminent execution of protester Reza Rasaei's death sentence. According
to a reliable source, the risk of Rasaei's execution has escalated
significantly in recent days, with no apparent obstacles in its
implementation. A person close to Rasaei's family informed Dadban, a
group of pro-bono lawyers, that despite registering objections under
Article 477 several months ago, neither the family nor their legal
representatives had received any response. Rasaei, a 34-year-old member
of Iran's Kurdish and Yaresan ethnic and religious minorities, was
arrested on November 24, 2022, in Shahriar, Tehran province.
He is currently being held in Dizel Abad prison in the southern
province of Kermanshah.
Amnesty International quoted an informed source last year as
saying that the man was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment,
including <electric shocks, suffocation by putting a plastic bag over
his head and severe beatings to compel his forced 'confessions.'> The
group urged the authorities to immediately grant Rasaei access to his
family, independently chosen lawyer, and adequate medical care to
protect him from further ill-treatment and <investigate his torture
allegations, bringing anyone found responsible to justice in fair
trials.>

Jina Amini
Iranian authorities unleashed a brutal crackdown on months-long
protests sparked by the custodial death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in
September 2022. More than 520 people were killed during demonstrations,
and over 20,000 were unlawfully detained, activists say. Following
biased trials, the judiciary has handed down stiff sentences, including
the death penalty, to protesters. Nine of them have been executed so
far. The protests and clampdown on dissent have been particularly
intense in Iran's western Kurdish areas and Sistan and Baluchistan,
which is home to the country's Sunni Baluch minority.>>

<<Mahsa Amini Case Stalls in Iranian Courts: Family Lawyer
Saleh Nikbakht, the lawyer representing the family of Mahsa Amini,
has revealed that the family's complaint remains under the prosecutor's
jurisdiction without a scheduled court date. Nikbakht emphasized that
cases related to the 2022 protests, including Amini's, should be
conducted publicly. However, he noted that many such trials, involving
individuals charged with offences like <waging war against God> and
<corruption on Earth,> have been conducted behind closed doors. The
lawyer highlighted that the investigation into Amini's death, which
occurred while she was in the custody of morality police agents in
September 2022, has yet to yield results, with no court proceedings
initiated.
The death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman from Saqqez,
sparked widespread protests in Iran.
Nikbakht expressed frustration that Kasra Hospital's medical
reports concerning Amini were withheld from her family, depriving them
of the chance to seek consultations with trusted physicians.

<<Woman Murdered by Husband with Violent Past After Refusing
Financial Demand
Samereh Mokhtarpour, a 38-year-old woman from northwestern Salmas,
was killed by her husband. According to a source familiar with the
situation, Samereh endured years of domestic violence. Her tumultuous
journey began at the age of 14 when she fell in love with a boy named
Akbar. However, due to familial objections, their relationship didn't
materialize until she turned 20, only to eventually end. Despite facing
familial challenges, she pursued her education and was accepted into the
law department at Urmia University. However, family pressures persisted,
prompting her to flee with a man named Bahman Meighani. Escaping her
family's harassment did not alleviate her troubles. Samereh's
relationship with Bahman was marred by violence and control. She was
isolated from her family for two years until Bahman's family ejected her
and their child from their home.
Forced to return to her family, she eventually found refuge with
her mother and later established a welding shop in Urmia to support
herself and her child. Despite her resilience, Samereh faced relentless
abuse from Bahman, who doubted her fidelity and subjected her to
physical violence. This abuse remained hidden from her family until the
day of her aunt's funeral when Bahman attacked her in public. When
Samereh graduated in law, Bahman prohibited her from practising and
compelled her to work as an accountant in a quarry company. Unbeknownst
to Samereh, Bahman had a violent past, including a stabbing incident
that left a man severely injured. This dark history resurfaced when
Bahman demanded money from Samereh to settle his past crime, culminating
in her death. On March 30, Bahman instructed her to sell her car to pay
off his debt, but Samereh refused. Bahman sought funds from his mother,
but she refused, insisting that Samereh was financially stable and
should provide the money herself.
Samereh's lifeless body was discovered the following day, bearing
marks of injury and strangulation. Bahman has confessed to her murder
during police interrogation and is currently in custody.>>

<<Iran Court Sentences Kurdish Rapper Saman Yasin to 5 Years in
Exile
Saman Yasin, a Kurdish rapper arrested during the Woman, Life,
Freedom protests, was sentenced to five years in exile in Kerman
province. The lawyer representing Yasin said the verdict was issued by
Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court. This judgment was personally
delivered to Saman Yasin's lawyer on Sunday. Lawyer Hossein Sartipi
said, <Saman Yassin has been spared from execution. According to the
ruling by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, he has been
sentenced to five years of exile to a city in Kerman province. I intend
to appeal to the Supreme Court.>
<Yasin has been in temporary detention for over 18 months,> he
added. Yasin, a vocal critic of Iran's clerical establishment, was
arrested on October 2, 2022, and tortured during his detention. He was
then sentenced to death on October 29 on the charge of <waging war
against God.>
The Supreme Court later overturned the sentence.
In his letter last month, Yasin highlighted his ongoing struggles
with mental and physical health issues, saying, <I continue to suffer,
yet incompetent officials cannot even facilitate my access to medical
care.> <Please inform me of the crime I have committed. If I am found
guilty, then imprison me, if not, then acquit me,> he wrote.>>

Toomaj Salehi, a protest rapper who was arrested during the
Woman, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) Movement, has been sentenced to

allegations of <corruption on earth.> According to a report obtained by
the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024,
Amir Raiesian, one of Toomaj Salehi's defense attorneys, stated in an
interview with <Shargh Channel>: <The Isfahan Revolutionary Court, in an
unprecedented decision, has not applied the Supreme Court's verdict on
Toomaj Salehi's case from 2022, and so by interpreting this ruling as
'Directory Statue' and emphasizing the trial court's independence,
sentenced Mr.Salehi to execution on charges of corruption on earth.>
Raiesian further stated: <The Isfahan Revolutionary Court considered the
allegations of partnership in rebellion, consensus and collusion,
propaganda against the government, and incitement to riot as instances
of corruption on earth under Article 286 of the Penal Code, and based on
these presumptions and emphasizing the authentication of the corruption,
it issued a death sentence for Mr. Salehi. This is despite the fact that
the same branch had not previously confirmed the authentication of the
corruption on earth charge. However, even more strangely, the trial
court also considered a supplementary sentence alongside the execution
verdict and sentenced Toomaj Salehi to two years of travel ban, ban on
artistic activities, and participation in behavioral skill improvement
classes held at the Isfahan Judiciary Center.> Salehi had previously
been sentenced by the same branch of the court to six years and three
months of imprisonment and had been sentenced to a travel ban as
supplementary penalties for the allegation of <corruption on earth>.
Salehi had been acquitted of the allegations of <insulting Khomeini,>
<insulting Khamenei,> and <communicating with hostile states.> After
enduring one year and 21 days of imprisonment, 252 days of which were
spent in solitary confinement, and overturning the six years and three
months of imprisonment sentence by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court, on
November 18, 2023, Toomaj Salehi was temporarily released from Isfahan
Central Prison pending the completion of his trial proceedings. Salehi
was arrested on October 30, 2022, amidst the protests of the Woman,
Life, Freedom movement in the village of Gerd Bisheh in Gandoman
District, Borujen County, Chaharmahal, and Bakhtiari Province. This
artist was arrested for the second time on November 30, 2023, by armed
security forces in Babol City in a violent manner, along with beatings.
Since then, he has been transferred to the Dastgerd detention center in
Isfahan city and is currently being held in custody there.>>

<<Journalist Parisa Salehi Summoned for Prison Term
Parisa Salehi, a journalist, has stated that she has been
summoned to the Karaj Justice Department to begin her 5-month prison
term. In a social media post, she mentioned: <I received a notification
yesterday, instructing me to report to the 7th Branch of Karaj Execution
of Sentences office within the next five days to commence serving the
sentence.> Back in February, Salehi was initially sentenced to one year
in prison, accompanied by two years of travel ban, two years of
prohibition from online activities, and two years of exile to Zanjan.
The ruling was issued by the head of the first branch of the Karaj
Revolutionary Court on charges of <propaganda against the Islamic
Republic.> Although her one-year prison sentence was later reduced to 5
months in the appeals court, the supplementary sentences imposed by the
court were upheld during the appeals process. Salehi has pointed out
various irregularities in the legal proceedings, including the denial of

Atena Farghadani
NCRI - Womens committee - 23 April 2024 - in Women's News
<<Atena Farghadani, Cartoonist Political Prisoner Tortured in
Tehran Safe House
A week after the arrest of an Iranian cartoonist and former
political prisoner, Atena Farghadani, her lawyer said she was tortured
in a safe house run by the regime’s security police.
Atena Farghadani was violently arrested on April 13, 2024, by
security forces while putting up one of her caricatures on a wall in
Pastor Street where the presidential palace is located.
Her lawyer Mohammad Moghimi initially said she was taken to
Qarchak prison, but because of the severity of her injuries, she was not
admitted to the prison and was subsequently transferred to the women’s
ward of Tehran’s notorious Evin prison.

Cartoon
Moghimi wrote in his social media account, “To protest her
harassment by security agencies, Atena Farghadani went to Pastor Street
to put up a protest cartoon on the wall, when the IRGC Intelligence
agents, using extreme violence, first took her to one of their safe
houses and severely tortured her. She lost consciousness due to severe
bleeding from her nose and the blows to her head, and hours later,
regained consciousness in the prayer hall of the 8th Fateb police base
where she found out some of her clothes had been removed.
“After receiving her clothes, she noticed that blood stains were
washed out of her clothes, and on the morning of April 14, she was
transferred to the Evin courthouse. She has been falsely charged with
‘spreading propaganda against the state’ and ‘insulting the sanctities’
(against the Shiites’ 12th Imam).”
On April 21, the authorities of Evin Prison planned to send Atena
Farghadani to Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court for trial which she
refused, arguing that she had not committed a crime and did not consider
the Revolutionary Court to be legal. She has also refused to accept the
counsel of lawyers approved by the judiciary.>>

news:
Iranwire - 25 April 2024
<<Tehran Nurses Resign to Protest Poor Working Conditions
Forty nurses and operating room staff of a Tehran hospital have
collectively resigned in protest against systemic injustices and
inadequate conditions. Sources told IranWire that the Shohada-e-Tajrish
Hospital authorities have used intimidation tactics to deter further
signatures from the staff. The resignation letter explicitly cites
numerous protests, repeated attempts to address grievances, and the
failure to rectify issues concerning the rights of the workforce. It
emphasizes the critical nature of the group's work and the inability to
continue cooperation in light of <concerns and injustices.> The nurses
have articulated several reasons for their resignation, including
inadequate and demeaning overtime compensation, substandard salaries,
non-compliance with approved payment regulations, and denial of
entitlements such as radiation allowances and clothing provisions. With
approximately 200,000 nurses working in Iran, the nurse-to-patient ratio
is 0.7, far below the international standard of 2.5.
Meanwhile, approximately 20,000 trained nurses remain unemployed
due to the government's financial constraints, which limit their ability
to hire and retain medical staff. The Ministry of Health has
acknowledged the need to recruit at least 100,000 nurses to bring the
country closer to the international standard. For years, nurses in Iran
have voiced their frustrations about overwhelming workloads, inadequate
compensation, and a shortage of employment opportunities, but their
demands have remained mainly unanswered. The misallocation of resources
by the government, including the recent hiring and deployment of
officers to crack down on women not wearing the mandatory headscarf, has
created a system that undervalues the crucial role played by nurses,
contributing to their mass migration.>>

for Human Rights on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, intelligence personnel
from the Fuman city office in Gilan province apprehended Maryam Basir
Tavana, Mahsa Basir Tavana, and Meysam Basir Tavana, members of grieving

this report, precise information regarding the reasons for the arrests,
the charges brought against them, and the whereabouts of these three
family members remains elusive, despite their families' persistent

Saman Yasin
Hengaw Organisation for Human Right - 23 April 2024
<<Hengaw Expresses Serious Concerns Regarding Saman Yasin's
Conviction
Hengaw has voiced profound concern over the disclosure of details
surrounding the conviction of Saman Yasin, a prominent Kurdish artist
and activist detained during the 'Women, Life, Freedom' movement.
Official documents obtained by Hengaw reveal that Saman Yasin has been
sentenced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to five years
of imprisonment, including solitary confinement and isolation in exile.
Despite his illness, Mr. Yasin has endured 568 days (19 months) of
detention without being granted furlough. Reports received by the Hengaw
Organization for Human Rights indicate that Saman Yasin, detained during
the 'Jin, Jian, Azadi' movement, has been sentenced to five years of
imprisonment, including solitary confinement and exile to Shahrebabak
prison in Kerman province, by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary
Court under the leadership of Chief Judge Mohammadreza Amouzadeh.
Following the publication of Saman Yasin's sentence, issued by his
appointed lawyer in a deliberately vague and incomplete manner, Hengaw
has obtained reliable information suggesting that Saman Yasin, a Kurdish
political prisoner, has not only been sentenced to five years of
imprisonment in exile but also specifically condemned to isolation in
solitary confinement. This entails a lack of communication or
interaction with fellow inmates and visiting his family, highlighting
the severity of his sentence. Hengaw criticizes the actions of Saman
Yasin's appointed attorney, believing that he intentionally downplayed
the severity of the sentence to <exile> only in order to reduce public
pressure and cover the sham trial conducted by the judiciary of the
Islamic Republic. In reality, the sentence includes five years of
imprisonment in exile. This strategic move is seen as part of a broader
governmental agenda and is viewed as a violation of oath and
professional ethics, warranting a revocation of the attorney’s license.
It is important to note that in Iran, especially in political cases,
defense attorneys are appointed by the court for the defendant, with
minimal input from the defendant themselves. Consequently, legal fees
for the defense attorney are covered by the judiciary. However, during
movements such as 'Women, Life, Freedom,' some appointed defense
attorneys have deviated from their ethical obligations, condemning their
own clients instead of providing adequate defense. The trial proceedings
for Saman Yasin's case took place on April 18th, with the verdict
communicated to his appointed lawyer on Sunday, April 21. Hengaw has
learned that during the court hearing, Saman Yasin's family was barred
from attending, and authorities resorted to physical assault against him
at the end of the hearing. Previously, the artist had demanded that his
court session be held publicly and had called for the participation of
domestic and international lawyers and journalists. He urged them to
send their attendance requests to Judge Salavati and the court
authorities as soon as possible. Saman Yasin has stated that the
repeated cancellations of his court sessions and the deliberate
obstruction of his transfer to the hospital are part of a deliberate
process aimed at <destroying his body and mind> by security
institutions. On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, Saman Yasin was urgently
transferred from Rajaishahr Prison, along with a group of political
prisoners, to Ward 8 of Evin Prison, and then on September 3, from there
to Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. On September 20, 2023, he was expelled
from Unit 3 of Ghezel Hesar Prison without permission to take his
personal belongings and was transferred to a section holding prisoners
convicted of drug-related crimes. On October 29, 2022, Saman Yasin was
sentenced to death by the Public and Revolutionary Court of Tehran on
charges including <Moharebeh> (waging war against God). This sentence
was later overturned by the Supreme Court, and his case was referred
back for re-examination to a court of the same level. Saman Seydi, known
as Saman Yasin, a songwriter, composer, and rapper from Kermanshah
residing in Tehran, was arrested on October 2, 2022, by security forces
at his home for supporting protests. After interrogation, he was
transferred to Rajaishahr Prison.>>
